    Hi all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for toys for a beginner? Never have bottomed before (or even used a finger for that matter), and didn’t think I’d ever be interested in a sex toy but I’ve become kind of curious as of recent. Do you have recommendations for good ones that aren’t crazy expensive and that will ease me into it, and also any tips for using a toy for the first time (as like I said, that would be the first time anything has been up there period). Thanks.

    For tips:

    * For anything anal, lube is a must (and a lot of it lol). Silicone based lubes are thicker and imho better, but harder to wash off. Use whatever type of lube you want, but keep in mind certain types of lubes break down materials in certain condom/toy types.

    * I'd recommend a toy that is realistically sized or smaller. Once you feel good with that and if you want to, you can buy something bigger. I'm assuming most toys have a flared base; anything without a flared base you're risking having an embarrassing accident lol.

*Start off with fingers or a tiny portion of the toy just to get used to used to the feeling of things

Agreed with the lube comment, it is your butt and your toy's best friend.

I always recommend staying away from the "jelly" type toys. Look for medical grade silicon or pyrex/glass and labeled for anal use or at least something with a larger base so the toy does not get completely inserted. Considering their intended use, spend a little more and get a nicer toy. I can't remember the exact price but I have a very nice pyrex butt plug and it was under $30. I have seen a few stainless steel plugs for around the $25. The vibrating toys can get really pricey.

As also mentioned keep to smaller sized or beginner sized toy. There are actual beginner anal toy sets from a few companies. Those would be my suggestions to start looking for a toy, and the nice thing about toys is in a relationship they are fun to use with your partner.

Hey guys, thanks to both for your suggestions. While it seems slightly intimidating haha, I think the best thing for me to do may be to just go to the store and look for the ones you’ve suggested and see if there’s some beginner ones. I’ve been talking to a guy that I’m considering going to the next level with, and although he is aware of my inexperience with bottoming, I thought it might be good to practice a bit with a toy so I’d be slightly more ready and hopefully relaxed for my bedroom experience with him.

See if he wants to go with you to get one. It could be awkward af but if you did it, it would also be super brave! I like the suggestion of pyrex ones or anything easy to clean and of course with a flange so it doesn't get sucked in. I had a synthetic of some kind from amazon, got anal lube there too lol. The inside shrunk over time or maybe the outside covering expanded? It was decent for a few years before that happened and then I chucked it, wrapped in a bag, at a disgusting petrol station rubbish bin, that no one would ever put their hand into lol. Try your finger with a glove and lube, try pinching off a loaf and bearing down to see how you open up to slide in w/o pain. It should not hurt tho some think it's normal to hurt and tell others that. You also have to consider scheduling playtime after a good dump so it's clean inside. Have fun!

A pulsating butt plug is my personal fave. It has a tiny, jelly-like texture to it. I'd start with something along those lines. My most recent purchase was a glass wand. It may be heated or chilled. I've just had it for a few weeks, so I've only used it once, but so far, so good.
In terms of porn, I'd recommend starting with a toy. My husband and I watch it on occasion (not often because we have two children), but I didn't think I'd like it at first. I don't mind it as long as it has some form of "story" to it. I hope this was helpful. Best wishes and have fun!

As others have suggested start small and work your way up. My first toy was a vibrating anal wand. It was about seven inches long with the circumference of around of around 2.5. The vibrating unit wasn't overly strong and didn't last long before it actually broke. It was rather cheap. I learned that in the sex toy world, cheap and vibrating tend to not go too well. The wand itself was beaded and was fairly rigid but I out grew it quickly.

Next a bought a prostate massager. Stronger vibrations, bigger diameter and tailored to hit the spot. Would I recommend it? Probably not. Didn't really do anything for me.

The toy I would actually recommend for a beginner is the Doc Johnson Crystal Jellies Anal Starter. It's 3.25 inches circumference with five inches insertable. This was the first toy I bought that looked like the male appendage, which heightened any experience. It's not too large, nor too small. It does not vibrate but it's cheap and will last. It has a suction cup, though I found it to be rather useless.

I did buy a cheap vibrating cock ring but I just don't like wearing it. It felt like if I left it on too long something would fall off. I bought a more expensive one that actually feels better though I'd probably not recommend them period at this stage.

Once I felt that I was outgrowing the Anal Starter I bought a 6 inch realistic dildo and with that came realistic sizes in length and girth. Don't start here. Aim to get here. That's been one of the better purchases but it does take a while to get to this stage (did for me).

Lube is a MUST. I found KY completely useless for any backdoor toy. I now use System H20 Anal lube. It's cheaper, highly rated and water based. Lasts as long as some sillicone based lubes appare Be careful using silicone based lube with sex toys as some toys are not silicone safe. When in doubt, water based is the way to go.

I also bought a masturbation sleeve. Totally worth it. It's only cheap but it was my first foray into this genre of toy.

I highly recommend a Fleshlight. You can order them online and it will come in an unmarked box. Order some lube as well and I recommend a water based lube called “Gun Oil”. It is a wonderful toy and you can practice lasting longer by edging yourself. It also feels very similar to the real thing. It is easy to clean and you can buy different internal configurations that are from smooth to aggressive. I found the anal shaped opening is tighter than the mouth or vagina openings. As far as anal toys, I have found the small diameter vibrating toys with a slight curve are very nice prostrate massagers.

Sounds nice. I would suggest a 3.5 inch butt plug to get started and then move on to anal beads and a realistic dildo. Vibrating toys can also provide heightened sensations. Just relax and enjoy them with your guy and you’ll soon realise what wonderful sensations they give you. You’ll be ready for the real thing in no time.

I tried EStim after seeing some videos on it. It looked like a great way to have a hands free orgasm, so I spent $100 on buying a unit. It never really worked to create an orgasm, but some of the settings did feel good but never took me over the edge. If I had to do it over again, I would have tried finding someone who was able to achieve an orgasm using EStim and used them as an advisor.

Just an update even though I know this post is a bit old…finally made the leap and purchased an anal starter kit and got that in the mail and tried the smallest one in the kit. Did a few fingers before starting with it (which I had never done before), then tried the toy. I’m honestly not sure why I was so intimidated by the idea of it, once I lubed it up enough (which everyone was right, you need more lube than you think haha), it slid right in very easily, and it didn’t feel uncomfortable at all, I really enjoyed the feeling of having something in there, it felt great. Being I have never bottomed before or had anything up there period, I felt proud that I finally went for it and tried it, and I’m definitely looking forward to the real thing. Thanks for all of the suggestions.
