The sitting president of Haiti was murdered in his own home by a group of commandos. The attack happened at 1 am local time. People say that the group was speaking English and Spanish. There has been strong condemnation worldwide from world leaders.

The question is who did it and what do you think will happen? Many say that a new dictatorship will come into place.

By the way, are there any Haitians on this website that would like to say something about this?

Does it matter? It's just more 3rd world political games.

It does matter because there are 11 million lives that are affected by this. Haiti is a beautiful country but due to natural disasters and a slavery past, it is the poorest country in the western hemisphere.

As somebody who was lucky enough to be born in a wealthy nation, I think we should pay attention and support those that weren't luck enough to be born in a wealthy nation.
    Just my two cents.

They're so close to the US. That's quite an advantage.

As @Melissa pointed out, this affects the lives of many people, so it does matter. A lot. We need to stop being selfish and looking down to our own bellies while other people are suffering, regardless if it is in our own country or elsewhere, especially since the so-called 1st world is frequently responsible for the wars and exploration of the poorer countries.

Unfortunately, Haiti has been in a difficult situation for many years now. I hope the people living there are ok and that their situation becomes stable and safe sooner than later. There are many eyes and groups (including international interests) looking upon Haiti now, but not many of them are concerned about the safety and well being of the haitians.

We should take care of our homeless and poor here at home before we worry about a country where the Government is keeping people in poverty and under their thumb.

Just remember that not everyone here on EC is from the US. Furthermore, while I understand that we can't forget about the problems in each of our own countries, it is important to have empathy and respect for those who are also enduring hardships elsewhere. This forum is based on that, as we are helping each other regardless of our countries or cultures.
