I posted a while back about my middle son coming out to me as pansexual. He was nervous, shaking and obviously very scared. I've always said that, of my three sons, he is the most like me. When he finished I made the decision to come out to him as gay. To say he was surprised is a major understatement. Nobody that I've come out to has ever expected it. I've always got the "No shit!" reaction. We hugged and cried for a while and have definitely been closer to each other since then. A few weeks later when I was having dinner with them, his wife made a comment about a friend of theirs who was having a rough time with her parents who would only call her by her "dead name" even though she had transitioned several years ago. I said that was very thoughtless and unkind of them. My son's wife got a surprised look on her face and I knew then that he had respected my privacy and had not told her that I was gay. I hadn't really expected him to keep a secret from his wife and let him know he could tell her. A few days ago I was visiting with them and before I left his wife gave me a present. It was a miniature dragon (I collect dragons) that she had painted by hand herself. The dragon's chest is painted in a rainbow! It's a small gift, but it means a lot. I thought it would be nice to share something uplifting as so much of the time here on Empty Closets we are dealing with problems and difficulties! If you go to my profile page and click on my album you can see a couple of photos of my Rainbow Dragon!

It's very cute... and such a thoughtfull gift.
Thanks for sharing this story, it brings a smile to my face.

One of my kids is obsessed with dragons (and the others love them too), we plan to sculpt a dragon with the help of the book Fantasy creatures in clay (one day, when we get to it), written by Neal Deschain, who is coincidentally a trans man (I didn't know that when I bought the book)... anyway, you just gave me the cool idea to make it a rainbow dragon
    Thanks!

awww that's so nice, it makes me feel warm inside. I can imagine a relative/or close friend giving me or another one of my friends a knitted trans flag/sweater in the same way.
