It is the end of America. America was never truly free but at least it could somewhat look like it. Now, that will be over. Women's reproductive rights will be over. Immigrants will be treated terribly , and so much more craziness will happen.

If Trump wins again, it's no exaggeration to say that I will not visit the USA until 2025 and possibly even later than that. The way that the place is run is bonkers for a 1st world country.

He does not even have to be reelected to have a major effect. Any judge that he nominates is guaranteed to push the court to the right, and with the balance in the senate there is a good likelihood (though not a certainty) that whoever he nominates will be confirmed. This will affect how the USA is governed well beyond 2030 even. I have not wanted to be in the USA for quite some time now, this only makes my resolve to stay abroad even stronger.

I have always been baffled by general points of view on LGBT subjects like gays in the military or same sex marriage.
I'm from Belgium so I'm used to a pretty open minded government but still...

As I visited the states for my job (pre-trans mind you) a few times in the past I've had the chance to talk directly with so called "real" Americans.
And I noticed extreme standpoints abt a lot of stuff. I also noticed bigotry and hypocrisy with a lot of my, at that time, colleagues and their acquaintances or family.

There are a lot of very beautiful and interesting places in the USA but I have, myself, also vowed to never visit it again on my own account.
I don't think I'll even get in these days :person_frowning:
Maybe I should look for a hubbie in the US and go for a green card, just to make a point :couple:

I dont consider the USA to be a "1st world country". (I have spent a fair amount of time out of USA so my thinking has a look back view perspective.) It's at the bottom on so many things. Healthcare, infant mortality, police brutality, elder care, VIOLENCE, on and on.

I'm super sad about this too. She was one of the good ones who helped us gain significant progress toward equality. I don't see LGBTQ rights winning any cases at the supreme court unless there are more fair justices than prejudice ones. It's more than our rights too, it's cases about healthcare, women's rights, minority rights, voting rights, gerrymandering, various cases about the election, environmental protection, etc. Even if Dems get a majority and can pass popular laws, the courts can put them on hold and then find some reason they're unconstitutional. This can go on for decades holding up progress that most of us want, and good luck changing the constitution. So many other countries are way better than the US in many ways and it's getting worse. Other countries are going in this regressive direction too so I hope it turns around soon bc it's not good.
