Just as a matter of interest, have any of you heard of the handkerchief code? Came up in conversation on a different platform earlier and wondered if any/many of your had heard of it and knew what it meant. In these days of internet I kind of imagined it had died out and was really surprised to hear it mentioned.
Yeah, I'm familiar with it. I have a buddy--he's a part of the underground gay leather scene--who wears a yellow hanky on his backpocket whenever we go out. One of his buddied is trying to introduce a black crossbones pattern hanky that's meant to represent necrophilia; whatever floats his boat, I suppose.
I've heard of it, but nobody really uses it anymore as far as I can tell. It's kinda pointless now when you can just ask what someone's into directly without anyone caring.
I know the general concept, but not the specifics. As other people said - I view it more as a "forgotten lore" kinda thing lol.
We'll maybe have to do an LGBT history thread and chuck the handkerchief code in there. I always pay special attention to the colour of pocket squares that business men and politicians wear. Could be kinda revealing.
