Every guy in my town is a yeeyee straight boy, and out of the other out guys one is 2 grades above, out of my league, my friends older brother, and in a relationship while the other out one is a furry. And then the blatant homophobia in my town is just annoying asf, and not to mention online/long distance relationships which are just emotionally draining

I understand, in my own way. You probably have it much harder, but for me, I’m a mostly closeted Bisexual. In my school, there were like 4 gay guys, but two moved, not to mention they All aren’t my type. Florida has quite a lot of homophobia too, believe it or not. I’m gonna be a senior this year though, and maybe in college it’ll be different. I’d assume you’re either in college already or a underclassmen, considering you said 2 grades ahead, but if you wanna talk, I’m still awake for now, so yeah

Hi, Ian (and Steve!) Welcome to both of you.

It does really REALLY suck to be in a place where you don't feel like you can be yourself, where you can be supported, and be free of homophobia. And that's one of the reasons that EC was created, because the guys who started it (a long time ago, 16 years to be exact) wished there had been something like this when they were in their teens. So here we are!

I wish I had magic words of wisdom to tell you how to pick out the perfect guy who's right in front of you but deeply closeted (it's very likely that person is, in fact, there) but unfortunately, there's no way to do that, and even if there was, no guarantee that guy is ready to come out yet, either because he isn't as strong as you are, or there's family bullshit that makes it unsafe, or something else.

So in the short term, what I can say is that EC can be a marvelous place to talk about what's going on and interact with others who are going through or have been through what you're now experiencing. And in the longer term, it gets easier as you get a little older and people are less uptight about being who they really are.

I hope the both of you will stick around and jump into the conversations!

Thank you for that. And yeah, I’ve actually really enjoyed hopping into conversations on here. I plan on staying active and being available as much as possible

Freshmen year might be the scariest, but it’s one of the easiest. What kind of classes are you taking?

Your high school seems way cooler than mine, and Geometry as a freshman? You must be really good at math. I didn’t know accounting was even an option at schools , but that’s all pretty cool.

I'm not the good at math I just managed to not get a F when I took algebra this year, and I think they have accounting as a option since its a small town and a lot of the kids pursue that kind of job

That’s still pretty cool, considering gym, band, DIT, Keyboarding (basically piano), AP Psychology, Art, TA (Teacher Assistant), and weightlifting are all the ordinary electives around me. What do you plan on perusing? Or have you not made up your mind about that, because that’s still something I’m not too sure about

Ooh, where would you travel to? I’ve always wanted to visit Japan, or even France and Italy, but Japan takes the first spot

Well, I live somewhere where homosexuality is still a taboo, my freshman and sophomore years at high school were at a homophobic school. Not to drag you down, but really, it just gets better. Just please do not go on "that" dating app, you'd go crazy seeing all that BS while still in HS. Enjoy it while it lasts, because you'll definitely hit some closeted boys here and there at high school :sunglasses::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
