Hey everyone I’m kinda bored at the moment and seeing as it is now 5 minutes in to pride month I’m curious. What are y’all going to do since they canceled most of if not all the pride parades? I was looking forward to going to my first one this year and now I’m all bummed out. Any cool things anyone’s doing?
I'm going to the one online in NYC (idk how it works but I'll be online for it). My city might still have it, idk but if they do I'm going. Last year I got to ride on a float. It was magical. The people are just a sea of rainbows and it felt so accepting and happy and now I'm crying anyway it was great.
I'm probably going to read LGBT+ books (I'm a bookworm and any excuse to reread some favorites is good ^^) and make some pride-themed art.
Pride is a protest, it’s a celebration of the progress that’s been made. But it’s also a memorial, and a cry that we will not go silently into the night. Two years ago me and some friends went down to New Orleans pride. We had taken our instruments, put pride flags on our instruments and marched through the streets playing jazz.
At my school, we have a GSA and I am gonna see if I can get in touch with them and do a google meet online or something, if not then I am gonna watch LGBT youtube videos.
I don't really celebrate Pride month since I'm not really out. (Even if I was, I have no interest in attending Pride events) So at most I'll either watch "Love, Simon" on DVD or read an LGBT themed book.
I disagree with the concept of "(insert social cause) months" since it basically prioritizes a handful of issues over all the rest and tells the rest they aren't important enough for a month/day....but if I see a parade I'll watch it I suppose.
June is also my birth month. It's one of my favorite months out of the year, but this year, it's all just shot to hell. Two weeks ago I thought things were looking up, but just when you I start to get happy, something comes around and knocks it away.
I had vague plans to attend whatever event was going to happen in Vegas (I assume there was going to be a parade) but that will wait until next year, I guess. I have no particular plans for this month except to be more openly Queer in general. Maybe I'll make a cake with rainbow-colored icing, I dunno.
Here in Cincinnati, our Pride festival has been rescheduled for October and moved to a different location. The two good things about that will be 1. It won't be 90 degrees outside and 2. the new location is in a location that's easier to get to. The standard location is a mile walk from Downtown and it's just too difficult for me to make that walk anymore, especially if it was 90 degrees and there's very little shade along the route. I will be dressing more queer than I have been in the past two months. During the quarantine, I was hardly going out, hardly seeing anybody and so I saw little reason to put in the effort. Combine that with spending the month of May at my mom's house (I'm still closeted with my family), now I'm heading home and assuming that the city isn't completely destroyed or we're not once again on lockdown or quarantine, I plan to be a bit more active. And as far as your cake idea goes. I saw this on TV last year and was like "OMG I have to have it. My birthday is in three days BTW. https://www.today.com/recipes/rainbow-explosion-cake-t151732
I'm probably going to celebrate online with my friend who goes to my school, she recently came out as bisexual. I might take my pride flag out of hiding a couple of times, I'll just kinda have to stay low since I'm not out to my family yet.
Las Vegas is a bit out of my way, too, but it's the closest real city to me. My mom and sister have been pretty supportive, so being kept in lockdown the last few months gave me an opportunity to dress as queer as I want without judgement (I hope yours will be too, when you're ready). The cake is a bit much for me, but it looks awesome... I may try something like that (it won't look nearly as good though). Won't be ready for your birthday, I'm afraid...
I heard about the virtual pride (https://keyou.one/news/commemorating-stonewall-first-ever-virtual-pride) and I’m pretty excited about it! I’ll definitely join in and hope you too
It's a time to be ultra fabulous! During Pride month I tend to highlight issues of concern at home and abroad and donate to charities and organisations that advance the cause of the LGBT+ community. That's not to say I remain silent for the rest of the year, but while there is a focus on our community during the month of June I go a bit further. All of these things can be done whether or not Pride events take place.
