So I’ve had a hoarding disorder my entire life. One of my earliest memories from when I was four was my mom selling my dollhouse that I never played with and sobbing for at least an hour because “I didn’t want to lose the memories.” But even with the obvious signs throughout my childhood, I wasn’t diagnosed until age 11. I’ve decided to do some research into hoarding disorders and discovered that it’s very unusual that I’ve had it probably since birth. In children, onset is usually 6-7. Other than that symptoms usually start around age 14. I’ve learned that there may be genetic links or environmental triggers, but no one in my family hoards and I’ve had a good childhood, so what the heck?
Huh. Well, it could be that some of the people you asked actually hoard/have hoarded. Maybe you just developed some values that lead you to hoard. Those values doesn’t have to be caused by a bad childhood I guess. *not an expert by any means*
