well not that I am always serious. I guess I never really lived a gay or bi life. That makes it harder for me.

My comment was more on I cannot think of anything. I need to find my inner drag queen I think.

Totally agree! I don’t know what exactly it meant by “gay stereotype” to begin with.

I didn’t even understand that I’m gay until I was 36 (15 years ago). I’m comfortable in my own skin and choose not to be defined by somebody else’s personal vision/prejudices of what “gay” means to them or their prejudices that only function is to create division and challenge the concepts of what “normal” is (gay or straight). I am the only person that has the right to put a label on me and the only one I choose is “52 year old gay guy”. No other stereotypical behavior of can think of b

Sorry - one more quick thing: can I ask what LGBT stereotypes exist in your eyes? Is “masculine” or “straight acting” stereotypes?

I'd say "masuline" and "straight acting" are becoming stereotypes, even though a lot of men who describe themselves as those things consider themselves to be going against the stereotype that all gay men are feminine.

I find it weird when a gay man decribes me as masculine because I don't think I'm very butch. I've got a scruffy beard, but that's about it. I don't have big burly arms, I'm not built to handle a lot of manual labour. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, but I am rubbish at using tools, and I could not carry an unconscious adult out of a burning building. I doubt I would ever win in a pub brawl. I'm as masculine and feminine as I want to be. I don't like acting like a drag queen or fairy princess, but I've got no problems asking another man, or a woman, for help with something.

Maybe the word 'stereotype' was a bad choice- I was more thinking about things like bi people rolling the cuffs of their jeans or lesbians wearing flannel, which is often talked about within the community as a universal thing between us but not everyone relates to. I didn't have any particular mannerisms in mind.

I wear "flamboyant" button ups, lol. I've got this navy one that's got watermelons and palm leaves, it's my favorite, but I also have one with pineapples.

ah, got it! Sorry, I’m “slow” lol

I can’t think of any particular mannerisms that I have that would/could be specific to being gay and the LGBTQ community - but I’m sure others would say differently. I guess it’s harder to recognize them in yourself. I’m told often by fiends or “new” people in my life - IF I feel Lomé sharing my sexuality with them - both “wow, I would have never guessed that, you seem very straight” and “duh, it’s obvious, no surprise there”. So who the heck knows what others see in my demeanor and appearance. Crap, now I’m confused...lol, kidding! Being confused is something I have already gone through, no doubt who I am today.

I buy the same kind of jeans in bulk. Just in different colors. They’re comfortable and I know they fit. When they wear a hole in them, I just go and buy more of the same brand, size, and fit. Takes 15 minutes tops. I didn’t realize most straight women don’t shop this way until I started seeing the jokes about it.

    I'll add more

I wear a lot of jewelry and accessories, more than the average man would.

I am like obsessed with my eyebrows. I keep trying to make sure they stay trimmed and nice, and I keep looking for ways I can make them better.

This would be me if I had money and space for several pairs of Converse. I love the look of those shoes!

I would say "straight acting" in particular probably rises to the level of a stereotype. I know I certainly have a whole list of presuppositions that come to mind when someone describes themselves that way.

I always have to have a brand new pair of leather Vans “Old School” skate shoes on hand - you never know. The condition of a mans shoes says a lot about him in my opinion. I’ve met some really cute guys, funny, dressed well, and then I look at their shoes and I’m let down...for me it’s like his teeth, you can tell when somebody takes the time to actually brush and have good oral hygiene. If you take all this time to dress nice and then cap off the outfit with crappy old sneakers you just wore to mow the lawn, what else do you not care about? But that’s just my quirk LOL
