I will stay away from the political quotes, much as I am enjoying them. But after the U.S. v France match, Megan Rapinoe said

"Go gays. You can't win a championship without gays on your team. It's pretty much never been done before ever. Science, right there. ... To be gay and fabulous during Pride month at the World Cup is nice."

And it was hard not to laugh at Deadspin's headline:

LOL, @silverhalo, it should be a good one. Maybe even better than USA-FRA.

(Those 3-letter abbrs can be unintentionally funny. We won over ESP earlier — one would think extra-sensory perception would be hard to beat. And we (either of us) may soon face NED — what, Homer Simpson's neighbor?)

Yes should be good I am looking forward to it.

It's funny how letters can be unintentionally funny, I have worked in various accounts offices and some of the supplier codes are hilarious.

I'm a bit disappointed we don't get to face the Aussies, and Sam "suck on that one" Kerr. But England are probably the better side overall... maybe better than France in fact. At the very least, they now have the mysterious "momentum," which might be all mental but is no less strong for that. Game on!

(My girlfriend [Tobin Heath] was robbed by the refs, but what's a World Cup — or WC as they keep calling it, funny the first time only — without officiating controversy?)

Apart from in the first game where they looked really good, I don't think France have played as well as they can, but they are always dangerous. USA will be favourite but I believe England have a good chance if they can play at their best.

Dude, I saw a game once that was Germany versus Nigeria, and even though Nigeria was technically the "home" team, they had to reverse the team's initials on TV so it was GER-NIG, because if placed in the "correct" order... Sometimes funny, sometimes potentially horrifying.

    O.M.F.G.

This tournament, I saw CHI used for China, and thought to myself "Chicago is playing?" (I bet they could field a good team.) The next time I looked, it was CHN.

Game soon! As per Kelley O'Hara, I will stop working for a few hours — in Pacific time the game starts at noon, so it's just a long lunch break for me.

@silverhalo, may your favorite players make great plays — and still lose.

In four years, it's anybody's game. (Where "anybody" does sorta look like western Europe. Money talks.) I can hardly wait to read about the "arrogant" Swiss or something. (If they field a team.)

But (as I touched on in our wall discussion) the U.S. lags terribly in play-by-play and interviewers. "Faux" Sports is not world class. That's where your country-people excel. That, and inventing physics.

I won't link to it, because it's a Murdoch paper. But love the headline:
Soccer store low on letters of Rapinoe’s name as jersey sales soar
