Are there any gay car enthusiasts out there?

Trying to take a break from the dense stuff I'm posting here on EC, hahahaha!

I'm a car enthusiast, a petrolhead. Just love cars, driving and motorsports. It's usually considered to be a "straight-guy thing"...at least that's what our world says, haha.

So I was wondering: am I the only one? How many gay car enthusiasts are there? I think there aren't many, but I can't be the only one! Lol!

So, if you're gay and love cars, tell me: what car is your favourite?

By "gay car enthusiast", do you mean something like a VW beetle? Seems like every guy who drives one of those (the new ones, not the original air cooled ones) is a poof, so that's a pretty gay car in my book. One of my friends said that Minis are pretty gay too.

But... seriously... I wouldn't say I'm a car enthusiast, but I used to be an air-cooled VW enthusiast. Built motors and redid the interior of my bus, and drove a Karmann Ghia that was fun.

And actually, I think there are probably a fair number of gay car enthusiasts out there. Not sure how many here, but maybe we'll see.

Yep, Ford Mustang! Use to have one until the unfortunate incident. :frowning2:

So that means that a Mini is more likely than not to date another Mini?

    LOL

I do get a sense there are gay car enthusiasts out there. I participated on another forum that had a fair number of gay men who had some interest in cars. Most IIRC were more interested in older American cars.

Really? That's funny...in my country having cars as a hobby is considered a "manly" thing, so I've never met a gay guy (at least not an openly one) who were car enthusiasts...most simply couldn't care less about cars. I don't know if it's cultural but here most openly gay men fit in the sissy/flamboyant stereotype. I don't know if it's like that elsewhere.

Oh...Sorry to ask, but does IIRC stand for?

There was a 1983 and a 1990. The 83 was a cool little red car that I drove so much I wore out. The 90 was Maroon, that was the one that died too soon! :frowning2: Neither were the GT model but they were still cool.

Bi and a vehicle enthusiast. More of a truck guy but there are a few cars I would like to have.
An air cooled Bug would be cool, either as a sleeper hot rod or a baja bug.
I would really like the 1970's era Little Red Express Dodge built... Or an SRT Truck.
The Viper and the Nissian GTR Vspec are two fast cars I would like.
If I ever get the funds I know of a 1971 International 200 Binder is sitting. Its a rare International pickup truck.

But really anything with tires and an engine is cool. import, muscle, on road, off road, low rider, bikes, trucks, tanks, tractors...

Couldn't agree more. I just love engines. Doesn't even have to come with tires, since I also like boats and ships, hehehe. And I'm really, really fond of airplanes!

But I still prefer cars. All kinds of them. Love the big American muscle cars (specially Mopar), but I'm in love also with European hot hatches (VW Golf and Peugeot 205/306 GTI) and old school stock cars like BMW M3, Ford Sierra Cosworth, Audi Quattro and so on. I'm also keen on sleepers - those cars that don't look that special but are great driver's cars, like Alfa Romeo 164 and Peugeot's 405/406.

I remember the 405... It was advertised as award winning in some magazines here in the US. I think it was Peugeot's last hope of doing well in the US market, but it apparently didn't work out--they quit selling cars here in the early 1990s.

A college classmate's mother owned one when it was pretty new. I never had a chance to ride in it--I only saw it a couple of times--but he liked it. I think he indicated hitting something like 90 MPH on the Interstate (speed limit would have been 55 or 60 back then).

Then, I knew someone with a 405 about 15-20 years ago. I asked him how good a car it was, and he said he'd had less trouble than he'd had with his wife's Chevrolet minivan.

I have to admit to liking European cars, and my favorite car I ever owned was probably a 1990s VW. Although I wonder if I'll ever have a European car again just because of the question about the cost and difficulty keeping it running once it's older. I honestly don't like Toyotas particularly, but I'm at a point where something that's reliable, seldom breaks, and is cheap to repair is more and more appealing.

I am an auto enthusiast. I love anything with a motor and wheels. I love going to car shows and museums. I have been to Indy and two different museums in the Nashville area and car shows all over.

Over the years I have owned a 75,77 and 78 FireBird, 79 Camero, 56 GMC 100 4x4, 91 Suzuki Sidekick. 4 different Chevy trucks from the 90s and currently have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS I am toying with.

Europe has some really cool cars. Its rare to see a few of the more sporty ones like Lambo or Ferrari. Sadly most of the people with an Audi or a BMW are colossal pricks and terrible drivers. People with Porsches are generally good drivers, or at least they are smart enough not to cut off semi trucks...
The only reason I went out and bought a dash cam to put in my work truck was all those rich *expletives* up around the ski towns. Its either an Audi, a BMW or some hippy *expletive* in a hybrid or electric.

I love Peugeots. I've owned one myself, a small 206 which I adored. It could be tricky sometimes...for me it was just being...well, French! Hahahaha

They're planning to re-enter the American market this next decade and they're making those great looking SUVs (which I find a bit annoying myself...this SUV craze!).

Totally understand that. It's very nice to own, say, an Alfa Romeo. But when it breaks it means either headache or bankruptcy (most often both, hahaha).

Toyotas are a bit blend, really (although they're getting more interesting). But if you want something realisable and more fun, why don't you try a Mazda?
