La Fin (The End)

Tonight, nearly six months after I came out to my wife, I moved out of the house. After I came home from work today, my wife and I went to dinner and as we ate dessert, I looked at her and said, "It's time." She smiled and agreed. My furniture isn't due to be picked up till Friday, but the time had come for me to move out at long last. We went grocery shopping and then came back to the house where I packed up my remaining personal effects and loaded them into the car. There was no drama and no tears. I think that we were both ready for the end of our cohabitation. These past months have been like a long farewell waltz. It was time to end the dance. We smiled and hugged and then I left and drove down to the house I have rented.

To mark the occasion of my new life, I just signed up to attend my first LGBT social event in May! I am so excited! Six months ago I little dreamed or dared hoped that I would be on such a new path. It's like a new birth. I realize that there will undoubtedly be growing pains along the way. It's not going to be all rainbows and unicorns. I am not fully out, but that day is fast approaching. But I am so looking forward to my future life. I am filled with a sense of optimism and hope. To live my life openly as a gay man after years of hiding in the closet is such a thrill and a joy!

 

Thanks so much everyone! I so appreciate your kind words of support. To further commemorate this day, I went online and donated money to my LGBT center. I thought, "Well, let me start supporting the brothers and sisters in my community!" *smile*
