Watched bad old animated movies we could scrounge out on Youtube with my sister last year because we happened to get recommended one on the main page and accidentally went down the "recommended section rabbit hole" then ordered and ate pizza whilst casually watching Titanic with the rest of the family, but it was completely unplanned and just happened to fittingly be Valentine's Day so, nope, I have no clue what I'm doing this year, probably something just as spur of moment with my sister again lol. And, of course, as per tradition, mooching off our parents for some of the chocolates they'll have bought for each other.

Eech! Though I'm out, my wife and I haven't separated yet and I dread these sorts of holidays. Christmas and our anniversary in January were terribly. On Valentines Day my wife will likely become sad as she considers the end of our marriage. It will be a painful day for me. *sigh*

I hope you all have a decent day at least
I used to have braces. At one point I broke a wire trying to eat food. Whoops

Hey, there is always the weekend!

Absolutely. When you find somebody special to you, then you must cherish all the time you have together

When is the similar holiday in Romania?

I plan to be out of town. Not because it's Valentine's Day, but because it was already planned. I have no idea what I will be doing on that day and I don't much care.

Valentine's Day is always a rough day for me. I have a feeling it will be more trying this year, but we'll see.

    Nothing.

Best case scenario: it will be "just another day of the week." Worst case scenario: I will get depressed, as I ponder how alone and unlovable I am.

Date with the lovely Shen Wei and handsome Zhao Yunlan. Will treat myself with pizza and ice cream. Might have dinner with mom, not decided yet.

People go out with your friends and family on valentines day!

For us, we will be going to a local food truck event with family and friends. We usually send flowers to our parents and grandparents. Hate how this day makes people feel, but you can make it your own.

Fuck the notion that the only love worth celebrating is what you have with a romantic partner

Same here, after work at least. Valentine's day is just great when you're single. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I know people think it's cliche but tbh I think we could all do with a day where we show how much we love someone. Even when you care as much one day to the next, t hardly hurts to spoil someone a little when they're important to you.

True. I've heard people talk about how valentines day isn't needed because they express that stuff whenever they can, etc. but it seems like it's a good day to look forward to for people who would want to make up for lost time.

Yeah, that's the thing. Valentine's day might be commercialism for a lot of people, but if there's any day that's dedcated to love, then people can take their chances on someone they care about or express their feelings where they wouldn't otherwise have the confidence. I remember getting cards on valentines day when I was younger and being so sure that when I found out who had taken the time, then I'd have my person, you know?

It didn't quite work out that way for me, but I had friends who were smitten after valentine's day and had significant relationships. I'll never see it as a pointless celebration.

I couldn't post before because it was a surprise and my boyfriend reads this site.

For Valentines Day we went to a really nice restaurant and lounge overlooking the city for dinner, exchanged gifts, and afterwards took a peaceful walk through our university's campus to a well known and prominently displayed fountain. We spend a lot of time at that fountain, hanging out there between classes, eating lunch together, and we were both thrown into the fountain on our 21st birthday's in accordance with university traditions.

The fountain is surrounded by bricks in the floor that people can buy and engrave for their graduation or other special event. The bricks stay there forever and are a permanent part of the university (some are 70+ years old already).

I secretly bought a brick and had it installed right at the spot we usually sit together at the fountain. We sat down at our usual spot like normal, and after a couple minutes of talking he suddenly stopped mid-sentence as he accidentally caught a glimpse of it. The look on his face when he noticed the brick was priceless - and now we get to sit together with our brick every time we hang out there for the rest of college. Even after we both graduate and leave, our brick and a part of us will be there forever, just like the memories we've made together in college will be with us forever. The engraving on the brick says:

    (his name) and (my name)
    Class of 2020
    United by Everlasting Love
