Who are your LGBT heroes you look up to(living or deceased)?

I mean I'd say mine are:

    Eleanor Rosevelt
Richard Wright(the Black writer from the US, not the Pink Floyd keyboardist)
    David Bowie
    Josephine Baker
    Frida Khalo
Emma Gonzalez(the Parkland HS shooting survivor and part of March for Our Lives)

My LGBT heroes are probably Munroe Bergdorf, the trans activist who got fired from L'Oreal UK for calling out racism. I think she's so fearless and she deserves more recognition for the work she does. And also, Benjamin Alire Sáenz is a hero of mine. He's a gay author who constantly calls Donald Trump out on his bullshit on twitter.

Never really thought about it, but I guess I'd pick Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris.

    Oh, and Albus Dumbledore.

A little unique since most people have never heard of him, but for me it's Pat Tillman.

He was a gay professional football player in the NFL who voluntary quit professional sports and enlisted in the military as an Army Ranger after the 9/11 attack (not as an officer either, he had a degree but chose to go in as a normal infantry private instead). This was when it was illegal to be gay in the military too.

He died in Afghanistan, and it was later proven that he was killed by friendly-fire not the enemy, and based on the wounds it was determined as very likely another soldier shot him intentionally not by accident. A general ordered all of it to be covered up also and they tried to hide the proof by burning all of his stuff and body so the friendly-fire couldn't be proven but they weren't able to go through with it.

His brother (who joined the Army the same time as him) said he believes it was an intentional murder because of him being gay, as the soldiers in his unit were extremely homophobic and were openly aggressive to him about it all the time.

    So basically:

    - Had a degree and the fame and money of being in the NFL
    - Threw all of it away to protect his country out of patriotism by joining the military during wartime
    - Joined an organization where being gay was literally illegal punishable by jail-time even though he was gay.
    - Purposely didn't become an officer even though he easily could have because he didn't want special treatment
    - Was then murdered by his own side for being gay after all those sacrifices.

i'd say Ellen Degeneres. i think she's one of the more vocal icons for LGBT. then there are RuPaul, Lance Bass, Ricky Martin, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen Paige, Wanda Sykes, Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper.

Definitely Freddie Mercury and Alan Turing. Also if we're considering comic book heroes too then Batwoman would be one of my favourites.

@scorpiontx91, an lol for the Richard Wright comment. Great keyboardist, understood how to play ensemble. (I.e. not all ten fingers all of the time.)

Hi @scorpiontx91, I have read more about him than I have read him directly. I was just impressed that you knew there was any other Richard Wright. Several others, really. I have had the same discovery about my own name: some commendable people, others rather unsavory characters.

I hope my comment did not come off as dismissive of LGBTQ Richard Wright. It just happens I'm a big fan of the musician.

I read somewhere that Pete Townsend(from The Who) had somewhat came out as bi in the 70s or 80s. I'll add him to my list of LGBTQ role models/heroes

I'll add Barbara Jordan, an African American lesbian woman. A US Represenative from my home state of Texas, a state rep of Texas, and served on a commitee during the Watergate hearings
