i made this thread because i found a fellow car guy on another thread, then like four more came out of the woodwork, so now i'm making this. my project is a 1948 diamond t 201 that is currently on an s10 frame, but i want to put it on a full size k20 frame. it also has a built v8 350 pushing about 300 horsepower through a turbo 400 trans. i also help my neighbor wrench on his super stock circle track '70 camaro.

I don’t think I’ve ever even seen one of those trucks before. Very cool. I agree with you, put a k20/30 chassis under it, and make sure you put some decent brakes on it so you can slow it down.
My first vehicle when I was 15 was a 1964 Chevy C10 so I definitely appreciate old cars and trucks. I’d love to get another 60-66 someday when I can afford it.

Toyota is my favorite but I like them all. I’m more into trucks than cars.

    Good idea for a thread!

Hey everyone! I am one of the stranger people being mainly into Wankel rotary platforms. I was very much into rebuilding old Porsche 911's, 914's, and a 912's (4 cylinder 911). I do have a pretty wide area of expertise as I spent a couple years of my life doing custom fabrication on Japanese tuner cars (RX7's, Supras, R32 and R33, DSM's, etc)

My current (money pit) is a 1993 rhd FD RX-7. I was going for 500whp on it, but then decided to go full bridge port and a borg warner 76mm turbo as it is virtually unstreatable at 500whp anyway. Should make around 700whp on e90 when done. Starting to get the level of electronics that are killing my finishing time with the project (Motec is really needed when pushing a 1.3l rotary to 700whp, and that is around $4k by itself... FML)

In terms of trucks, I've always wanted to build either a 2jz vvti engine swapped Toyota Tacoma. (vvti is critical as it drops the torque curve to a use-able area.) The other idea I have is put an LS engine in a 4wd Chevy S-10, and convert it to AWD using the old Astrovan parts.

the s-10 is a genious idea, but not with an ls, i mean an lsx would be ok, but what you really want is an old school, pre vortec 400 sbc, revs like an import, plus the cylinder walls are super thin so there's this sense of impending doom at about 5k rpm. the tacoma is also good, but use an 80s toyota, also, i would love to see a six or twelve rotor wenkel in a vega, but for a road coarse build. and please tell me what you're using that rx-7 for

Cars have been my main interest/hobby ever since I was a little kid. I'm partial to Japanese cars, especially Honda's. Though I do love muscle cars as well, both old and new.

I have a decently built '01 Acura Integra as my summer car that I've had for many years since it was my first car and can't part with it lol. It started as an automatic and I converted it myself to a manual transmission and then pieced everything else together over the years(body, suspension, aero, minor motor mods, etc...) The last piece of the puzzle for it is a turbo in the very near future, looking to get about 300hp when all is said and done since that is good for FWD on the streets/track.
It's nice to see some other gay guys in the car scene. Now if only I could find one to marry life would be complete..:smile:

toyotas are a good source of gas trucks, especially since chevy went to metric blocks, and i much more like the 67-70 body style epecially with a stepside, or even better a power wagon. my dad's first truck was a fire engine red square body on dana 90s and 44 boggers, with a 400 sbc, a turbo 400 trans and a six inch lift. right now he has an 82 toyota on a 3 inch lift, an 85 two wheel drive chevy with a positrac, and a 98 z71. also i plan to put the diamond t on 3 piston willwoods, i was thinking k20 but possibly a k30 with dana 110s because it was originally a 1 ton truck, so if i do that i won't put as big of a lift on it, and i'll make it a dually, put it on air brakes and semi tires, and send it down the road with a cummins or a d-max.

Evo's have 4 cylinder turbo motors. In Honda's people typically swap the J-series V6 into them from the Acura CL/TL.

Valid points, its just hard when you can pick up a low mileage iron 5.3 for $500 that would love boost later in life. Even porting the heads they are not very good, but with the right turbo 800awhp is certainly doable with a set of rods, pistons, cams, rockers, and springs.

I know starting around the mid 90's to 00's Toyota trucks had an issue with frame rot, which would probably make the earlier chassis better. I just don't like the interior quality or design on the older units...

The max rotors you realistically need is 4. Naturally aspirated 2.6l making 500+whp screaming like an old Indy car. Search for Mad Mike FD RX7 if you want some engine sound porn. Edit, here is a great video:

The RX-7 is going to be for top mile events such as Tx2k. I helped build a very similar FD at one point, and on a long/open road course it is completely doable (although a terrifying transition into boost). Boost comes on full (around 23 lbs) at 4500rpm, and the engine is balanced and blueprinted to 10,500rpm. (although a small amount of eccentric shaft flex will take its toll on the rotor housings pretty quickly at that rpm.) 110psi oil pressue through windowed bearings are required, and 6x 2200cc injectors are being used (2x primaries, secondaries, and auxiliary injectors.) 3 Bosch 044 pumps are being used. I have an M&W pro-stock CDI. The list never ends... Or more accurately the costs

Yep. The later 4g motors are awesome, but the old 4g63's were a nightmare. They crank walked on a regular basis unless you girdled the engine. People used to pull the engines for drag cars for like $300 and throw a big turbo/fueling/engine management on it, and crank the boost up until it blew (usually from crank walk)

Yeah crank walk has always been a meme for those. Same for ringland failure and Subaru engines lol.

Don't forget about headgaskets failing at timing belt change intervals with the old turbo Subies as well. lol

I’d just use the old school Dana 60/14ff combo. simple, strong and plenty of aftermarket support. 12v Cummins would be cool because it would keep the wiring extremely simple, plus who doesn’t love that sound.
If you’re using the original bed and fenders I think it would look best with SRW.
I’m sure we have different visions for the finished product though.

the bed is a reproduction that my grandpa had done off of old pictures, it's a stepside bed, so it would be pretty easy to hack off the fenders and widen them, but it was originally going to be a drag truck so the rear fenders are wider and larger around anyways. since the bed isn't original, i wouldn't really feel bad about hacking it up, and it kinda has a front clip similar to a power wagon, so i could run it without the hoods and fenders like a rat rod

A 1948 Diamond T. That is freaking awesome. I'm trying to get my hands on a 1974 International 200 Binder, its a pickup truck. The windshield is a total loss and so is the seat and headliner, but the sheet metal is all straight and looked pretty rust free.

The only cars I ever really fancied were from Volkswagen. My first car at 16 was a Karmen Ghia, followed by a '75 Beetle and a '87 Jetta. The car I had the longest, for 17 years was a '73 Super Beetle (just sold last year as my new home lacked a garage). There was a charm and nostalia associated with those old VW's. *sigh* The newer cars, although sleek with lots of horsepower, seem bland and generic by comparison.
