I haven't seen any threads this year asking people how the year went for them. So I decided to copy and paste. :relaxed:

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?
For me it was starting testosterone! That has been a life changer in so many ways.

    2. What did you do over the summer?
One thing I did was go to San Francisco for my top surgery consultation. It was awesome to get to visit the city as well. The rest of the summer though I was kind of homeless and drifted around, working my job for the most part.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?
I dated a guy for a few months but that ended. Had a lot of flings but nothing substantial.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2018?
I don't really pay attention to the news so I don't know.

    5. Favourite song from the year?
According to Spotify, the song I listened to the most this year was "Sex and the Church" by David Bowie.

    6. Favourite artist this year?
    David Bowie.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
I looked at last year's resolution page here and I met almost all of them!

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
Starting T, getting my mental health balanced, and forming deeper relationships with a couple of my friends.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
My mom. She has been a huge support and we've really gotten a lot closer this year, more so than any year in my life.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
That sometimes relationships end and that's okay. It's hard to not let a friendship's ending spoil the good memories you had with someone, but I'm learning to accept endings and beginnings as a natural part of life.

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2018?
As I mentioned before, starting testosterone was a huge change for me.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
    Not really.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
None, I'm still a part time job working college student.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
Some of the moments I've had with my friends and pastor's family have been really meaningful.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?
Petty theft. I've decided it's really not worth getting caught to steal something as small as a drink.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
My church family, my mom, and my friends.

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?
I didn't really have any plans. I just stayed around my dorms this year around.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2019? What do you hope will be different?
I'm quitting smoking and putting my health, mentally and emotionally, as priorities.

    19. How do you rate 2018 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
I put a 4, because it's been a really tough year for me emotionally.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
I plan on being a part of EC as long as it exists. 2019 will mark my fourth year as a member!

I'd like to put 2018 behind me because although it was generally a good year, towards the end of it everything crashed and this will make 2019 an extremely challenging one for me.

I am proud to say that in 2018 I got a promotion at my job and I obtained my DELE B2 qualification in Spanish. In 2017 I obtained my B1 certification in German so I am happy to have actual certifications that will prove my competency in two foreign languages.

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?
    My mom passing away

    2. What did you do over the summer?
    Worked :frowning2:

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?

Better than I could imagine tbh

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2018?

There were quite a few crazy ones. Once I see what other people put, I'll probably kick myself for not remembering certain ones.

    5. Favourite song from the year?
No idea, that changes a lot lol

    6. Favourite artist this year?
I feel very basic, but probably Khalid

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?

I've wanted to come out for a long time, and I'm happy to have come out to most of my family now. But wasn't really a resolution.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?

Graduating from uni and hanging on despite the shitty things that happened.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
Hopefully not vain, but me lmao

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
    Yupp

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2018?
My mom dying, coming out, and getting a bf. Life-changing sounds so extreme, but my life is pretty different that last year at this time.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
No. I knew everything that happened was going to happen, I just didn't think it was going to happen in 2018.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
I got a degree and finally got my full driver's license.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
Despite how crazy this year was, I have a lot. Roadies and lazy days with my bf, hanging out with friend that lives a town away, and one of my jobs was a lot of fun (even if I was irritated how many hours I had to work)

    15. What was your most stupid incident?
Literally an accident. I was in a hurry and turned too soon and totaled my car :/

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
A handful of people that are important to me.

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?
I spent Xmas eve with my bf's family, Xmas with my best friend, and NYE with my bf and his friends

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2019? What do you hope will be different?
I really want to get a decent job and move out hopefully.

    19. How do you rate 2018 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
I'd say 5. I had some amazing times and some super shitty ones, so I guess it averages out to be just an average year.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
Probably. I'm using EC a lot less for gay-related things, but still love using it as a void to bitch into.

I did this same thing in 2014 and 2015, and it looks like there wasn't one for 2016 or 2017 (unless I didn't see it). I'm glad you made one, Andrew.

2018 was a 5 for me. I pay attention a little to the news and nothing real good happened, except de-escalations between the U.S. and North Korea. But we've also escalated with Russia and Iran last year. I pay attention to environmental news, which is always depressing but I'm used to it.
As for things going on in my personal life, last semester I started making a decent income with my University jobs. I also have a few actual friends now in college.
You see, I have Asperger's syndrome and so making friends is extremely challenging for me. This last semester in college it hit me how lonely I was compared to most other people who are always hanging out with their friends and talking (they made me jealous, angry, and depressed). So the fact that I managed to make a few friends, and I have classes with them again next semester, is a much-needed good thing for me.

And Andrew, seeing your profile picture makes me happy.

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?
Since I spent last Christmas in the hospital (broken leg after being hit by a car), this was really my first Christmas without my grandma.
    2. What did you do over the summer?
Traveled, New York City with my dad in May, Chicago to see my brother in August, and Florida with my mom in September.
    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?
    I have none.
    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2018?
Mostly local stuff. A shooting at an office building downtown, a kid who was dying of cancer getting an early Christmas, and post-season shakeups in the local pro-sports teams.
    5. Favourite song from the year?
A tossup between "No Roots" and "Lash Out" both by Alice Merton
    6. Favourite artist this year?
A tossup between ZZ Ward, Chvrches, Bishop Briggs, and Alice Merton.
    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
    I never make resolutions.
    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?
Christmas was getting together with family. New years, as far as New Year celebrations, none. I simply put on a 2-hour movie at about 11:00, turn off the lights when the movie ended I went to bed. From the time the movie started until it ended, I had no idea what time it was,
    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2019? What do you hope will be different?
Probably doesn't count as a resolution, by I am considering a big change for September/October.
    19. How do you rate 2018 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
7 I guess. Not great, but a hell of a lot better than 2017.
    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
    I hope so.

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?
Well I started 2 different jobs. Which has been really good experience.

    2. What did you do over the summer?
Worked and went to my cousins wedding back in Illinois in June.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?
Non existent unfortunately. Hopefully by this time next year that will be different.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2018?
I quit watching the news a long time ago for my well being.

    I can’t say I really have a favourite.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
For 2018, I made 6. I accomplished 2 of them. I figured out what I wanted to do and I got out of the food industry. I also had one that was to get ripped but I actually don’t care about that since I am comfortable in my own skin.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year? (i.e. -something you have done)?
Getting myself out of the food industry and finding a program that I really like that I could make into a career.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non-famous person)?

Not trying to sound conceded but myself. I feel like I have accomplished a lot this year and I can tell how proud my family is of me.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
Nothing really. In 2017 I had to learn a lot of hard lessons which I think prepared me for this year. It also helped a bit with my sense of character.

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2018?
Not really. Nothing bad happened to my family but I definitly made sure to tell my family how much I love them everyday and appreciate them while I have them especially during the holidays.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2019? What do you hope will be different?
Basically whatever I didn’t complete in 2018 I want to complete this year. I want to get into a relationship and make a few more friends.

    19. How would you rate 2018 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
I would give 2018 an 8 out of 10. It wasn’t the best year ever but at least nothing bad happened to me and it was so much better than 2017.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
Probably. I’ve been on this site 5 years already and still like it.

It was a tough year for me and to be honest I am glad it is behind me. 2019 is going to be a very challenging year for me too. I have started put on a totally new way of life, I feel scared, anxious as well as excited, but I have no job. Hoping this will change soon but after working with an organisation for 24 years and then leaving has left me feeling very exposed. I had to take a risk though and step out into the unknown. One of the best things that has happened though was meeting the love of my life, Joseph, and though we live in different cities he as made such a big difference to my life, and for that I am grateful. So I walk nervously into 2019!

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?

My first full year of dog parenthood!

    2. What did you do over the summer?

Threw a pretty awesome birthday party for myself, had my parents and sister come to visit and meet my dog for the first time, took a couple of weekend trips with my bf, was the token gay friend at my friend's bachelorette party (which I helped plan and organize).

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?

    Still going strong

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2018?

The US midterm elections. Looking forward to having the House back in 2019!

    5. Favourite song from the year?

James Dean by The Wrecks or She's Kerosene by The Interrupters

    6. Favourite artist this year?

    The Wrecks

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?

    I don't think I did

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?

It was the most financially successful year for me at my job

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?

Everyone who ran, volunteered, donated, and organized to help elect Democrats

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?

Not that I can think of

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2018?

    No

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?

    No

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?

    No

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?

Watching Fourth of July fireworks with my parents, sister, and bf from a riverboat

    15. What was your most stupid incident?

Can't really think of anything too major

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?

Family, bf, dog. And the fact that I'm no longer sick. I was sick for a lot of December

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?

Spent Christmas with my bf's family in Virginia then New Year's with my family in California

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2019? What do you hope will be different?

I need to shake a lot of things up. I feel very stuck in place. I'm not happy at my job (I did well financially but the environment is toxic), my social life has dwindled a lot, and I haven't been doing well eating right and working out. I want to look for a new job now and start working on getting some additional certifications and skills that might help me change my career path depending on how things go down the road. I'm getting back on the diet that worked really well for me a few years ago. And I need to work with my therapist on my social anxiety. Hopefully I can feel more confident and energetic with a more robust social life, less stress, and better health.

    19. How do you rate 2018 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?

    4. It was very blah.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?

    Don't see why not

    1. What was the biggest change in your life this year?
Hmm. I have a top 3. Going to high school.

    2. What did you do over the summer?
    I went to sleepaway camp.

    3. How were relationships with boyfriends/girlfriends?
Um. Two semi relationships with guys. Both I regret, one more than the other though.

    4. What news story sticks in your mind the most from 2018?
    California wildfires probably. Or Kavanaugh
    .
    5. Favourite song from the year?
Too many. Probably Say You Won't Let Go by James Bay though.

    6. Favourite artist this year?
Hmm. Lin-Manuel Miranda, AJR or Thomas Rhett.

    7. Did you make any new years resolutions and if so, did you stick to them?
    I don't remember a single one haha.

    8. What are you most proud of personally this year (i.e.- something you have done)?
    Two things. (I'm really indecisive)
    1. Coming out to my parents and close friends
    2. Realizing that it's okay to not be okay all the time and asking for help isn't a sign of weakness.

    9. Who are you most proud of (can be a famous or non- famous person)?
One of my friends who is just overall an amazing person and has overcome a lot and figured themselves out.

    10. Did you have to learn any hard life lessons in the past 12 months?
Yup, as I said before to ask for help and that I don't have to do everything on my own.

    11. Have you had any life-changing experiences in 2018?
Hmm. Maybe when my parents found out about my whole mental health/self-harm situation. Other than at the movies, I've never seen my dad cry so much. The whole day is burned into my mind.

    12. Did you do anything you never thought you would do?
Break some of the rules at camp.

    13. Did you gain any new qualifications?
    Don't think so.

    14. What is your happiest memory from the year?
As much as I talked about the bad, there was a decent amount of good too. Maybe going to see something involving the LGBT+ community and feeling all of their love and support then hanging out with them after.

    15. What was your most stupid incident?
Asking where my phone was, while I was holding it.

    16. What things do you appreciate most in your life at the moment?
    Health, acceptance, and stability.

    17. What are/were your plans for xmas/ new year?
For xmas, dad's birthday dinner. New year, hang with friends and family.

    18. Are you making any new years resolutions for 2019? What do you hope will be different?
Yup, eat healthier, be more productive, get more sleep, be less stressed and take good care of myself as well as others. So far, I haven't that much but it's only been 3 days so we will see how this goes.

    19. How do you rate 2018 on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst and 10 being the best)?
3 or 4, maybe a two if you really dwell on the bad days.

    20. Will you still be on EC this time next year?
    Probably and hopefully.

2018 wasn’t very good for me at all.
2017 was even worse as I spent a lot of time in hospital.
2016 was quite depressing but manageable.
    2015 I lost my Mum.

However, even today as my circumstances are hellish, I never wake up in a bad mood.
When I was in hospital, I saw people who were in a worse state than me.
I just look to the future and imagine that things will be better than they are now as I’m sure they will be.
