Since school started, I've become very good friends with this gay guy in my class. At one point after we met he admitted he had a crush on me and I told him I was straight and I just wanted to be friends with him. He is now my second best friend, but I've been lying to him, and he has to know at some point. We chatted on the phone today, and my brother threatened to out me to him. Tonight I had the realization that he will find out at one point. I plan to come out to him tomorrow, but I'm scared he'll either get mad at me for lying to him, or he'll try to pursue a relationship with me. I'm really scared our friendship will be ruined.
Spaceface.....If you tell him that you were just scared and nervous when you said you were straight, I don't think he'll be too angry with you. The odds are pretty high that he knows and understands how hard it can be to come out. A lot of guys who knew they were gay have denied it when they get a sudden question or someone tells them they have a crush on them. It's a defense thing that happens when you're not ready to tell someone. There's a good chance that he has done the same thing himself! So just say, Hey I'm sorry, I was just surprised and nervous when you told me you had a crush on me...I am gay and really do want you to be my friend! .....David
Thanks David. I actually told him today and it went really well! He told me he wasn't surprised or mad and he was proud of me for telling him.
