    Hi,

Please do this test and share your result here. It's quick and easy.
I'm curious about native English speakers too. I wanna know how is it about them.

Please tell if you are native speaker or not.

My estimated vocab is 33,800 words.

According to a different vocab survey I took for my recently completed English Composition course, my estimated vocab is around 22,000 words but puts me in the top 5% of English speakers.

30,900. I am a 26yr old native English speaker and was always years ahead of my age range in English comprehension. My sister used to ask me to explain a lot of what I said because I'd use words she didn't know. Now if I come across a word I don't know my kindle can tell me the definition.

At school plus like I said I attended a school that had classes in English and then lived in the UK for a year, but I'm not sure if I learnt this much since leaving school. It improved my speaking and speed and accuracy of translation. But vocabulary-wise I don't think so. I think the first year in this school was a breakthrough, because I had to switch. That being said, I already knew English quite well before being admitted, probably as much as one can learn by just having classes. From the beginning of elementary school up to high school - that was nine years. German took me the same amount of time to reach this level, but no further because I don't use it. However, given the inefficiency with which little kids study, this could have taken much shorter, I think.

How are so many of you getting 30,000+? I only missed like 20 words and all of them were so obscure that I've never seen them mentioned in any context ever. Where did you all learn the meanings of words like that which nobody actually uses?
