I have always been curious about this? it seems like a good proportion of gay men i meet always favour the bottom. Is this true for you guys?
I am not very experienced at this. But, I think there are multiple types of gay men. There are those that prefer dominant tops that might be looking for that in a relationship. Sadly, for me, I attract these guys and I am just not into that. But, I guess I have the look and body type for it. Once I fool around a little with a guy, I definitely get categorized as a "total top". Then there are the "total tops" who generally, I suppose, I find more attractive, but they don't feel the same for me. The guys I like the most don't like any of those labels. They are versatile and open to whatever. I think those guys are pretty common. I think you just have to look around a little bit and you will find guys you mesh with. When I first came out this whole discussion of my "position" really was something I found off putting. It just seemed so presumptuous to discuss how we would fool around by how we defined ourselves. I still don't like it but it was explained to me how relationships can be affected by this. So, why start out on the wrong foot? Right now, I have a regular friend who's partner is a total bottom and he wants to experience being a bottom. So, I'm helping him out.
I noticed this a while back. A hook up place I heard of would charge a cover for bottoms but let tops in free. I have been luck I have meet many of both And several that are not into that part at all
I suspect a significant portion of those "bottoms" are really just sides giving way to the predominant narrative of "top or bottom." Maybe when you have no real interest in penetrative sex taking the passive role is the least viscerally offensive option, most of them probably just want to cuddle and do other things though. I'm not saying there aren't genuine bottoms. All I'm saying is I'm probably a side but I could see myself conceding to a verse identity or something like that because no one likes to be completely alone all the time. But I'm just a stupid virgin who doesn't know anything so take my input with a massive pinch salt. Also, there is no reason to assume that there should be an equal ratio of tops to bottoms, this isn't sexual dimorphism, it's guys who like guys. Sorry for all the quotation marks by the way. I've been using them way too much lately and even I'm beginning to find it annoying.
It could be a genetic thing, or maybe some are just "lazy" (if someone spent their entire lives taking on traditional "masculine" roles, that could play a part, too).
I've always just assumed it's because total tops don't really need to be with a guy - they can top women too, but a bottom pretty much has to be with a guy. So some of the tops might be pretending to be straight which makes the balance shift towards bottoms.
Not necessarily. Girls can peg/wear a strap on, if the guy is predominantely a bottom. The issue is, I don't think many women would be into doing that with a male partner. So it kind of limits a bottoms choices to men (who seem more willing to participate in anal).
Gosh. As a guy who is into both men and women, I have to say that having intercourse with a man and a woman is totally different. I love giving both men and women pleasure but it is a lot of work to be good at it. The few times I have bottomed it was sort of nice letting someone else drive for a change and just succumb to it. Maybe that's why some guys only bottom?
I started my journey as a total vers but have evolved to a vers bottom. Like both but prefer to bottom mostly. I find the connection to be mind blowing.
I am ver. But enjoy bottom mostly because I enjoy the feeling. I can also ejaculate from that position also. I am bi and I have women top me also.
As time goes on I more and more prefer to bottom. It’s a feeling of being totally vulnerable and at the same time enjoying be the more submissive partner. Love the feeling of connection literally and figuratively with my bf. Incredibly sensual and erotic in my opinion.
I don't think I agree with the premise that most gay men are bottoms. All of the data I have seen would suggest more are versatile (40-45%), with significant minorities who favour bottoming (30-35%) and topping (20-25%).
Versatiles still have a preference usually though, and it seems to be bottom more often, so to me that still counts as being a bottom when they choose it regularly given the option. A quick scroll through the dating apps will show most profiles listed as 'bottom' or 'vers bottom', and from the ones I've talked to listed as just 'versatile'on there they still requested the bottom role most of the time.
