I was reading that there is a organisation in Germany that want a LGBT only nation.

What would people here think of the idea LGBT nation.

earthguy.....Personally I don't think it's a very good idea. We have spent a lot of time and effort trying to make the point that we should not be considered "different" just because of who we are attracted to. So much of the time different is equated with bad, unacceptable, the other. We are fighting to be accepted as equal to, not different from, everybody else. Setting up a nation based on sexual attraction would simply reinforce the concept that we are not the same as everyone else. I really do think that something like that would never actually happen, but if it did, it would be a mistake.

Hey David ...... I agree I don't think setting up a LGBT nation would be a good idea. I all so do not like the idea of people trying to separate themselves from each other and I don't think it ends well.

In case your wondering the name of the organisation is called The gay home land foundation.

Wouldn't work, I don't think. Since people have families/parents that are straight or their kids might be straight. Also what is within the lgbt is a debate within itself? The society would also create it's own hierarchies so it wouldn't be this rainbow elysium people might think it'd be.

In a fantasy world, it sounds fantastic, but in reality, it is just segregation and separates people from many who are close to them.

I don't like this idea. As others said, it would just promote segregation, and it's the exact opposite of trying to be accepted and considered equal.

I think it'd promote finding differences amongst everybody rather focusing on inclusion. I'd miss the few straight people in my life lol

Not a good idea. In fantasy it sounds fun though.

So many people have tried so long to help us today be accepted in sociaty and be as big of apart in the general public then everyone. It would contradict what we have work for like gay marriage and equal rights if we have our own nation

It's a ludicrous notion both because of the randomness of being LGBT, but more importantly because LGBT people only have one unifying characteristic - oppression on the basis of gender and sexuality.

That's something around which it's easy to create a social movement for a narrow scope of political and social change within a broader society, with a general understanding of belonging to that broader society as a whole. It not a sufficiently unifying feature around which to base a self-contained community.

I like to fantasize about a free city state of eternally youthful hunky gay men, with lots of sex and public nudity, where the idea of monogamy is non-existent. Lovely place for a holiday, terrible to settle in. An LGBT nation would eat itself soon enough though.

Nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. I agree we need to make the world more understanding and accepting of those that fall under the banner of LGTB. And I also agree that within such a nation there would still be segregation. For example would cross dressers be accepted by Trans people? I've seen hate before on this issue because they believe cross dressers are harmful to trans people. I just think we need to keep working towards everyone being accepted for who they are.

Nice idea if it was a book or movie or even a holiday resort but not a good move in reality. I always thought that if things like that exists what happens if you have kids who aren't LGBT. Do you kick them out ASAP. Can they visit? Also creating another discriminatory society to escape discrimination ourselves seems kind of counter productive if equality is something you want.

I think it would only direct more hate towards us. It’s shows us separating from the rest of the world.

I was just about to say the same thing about the non-LGBT kids.

As others have stated, further dividing ourselves would only make us more "alien" and we have enough trouble being accepted as it is. I would also fear hate groups would see it as an opportunity to "get us all in one place" for an attack. With Nazism trying to make it's return, I'm not so sure I'd want to be in a large populated area like that. If the US has taught me anything, it's that violent extremists love finding people they hate in large amounts.

However at the same time... I'm really desperate for a nation that isn't constantly eager for backtracking our civil rights. I think for a moment at all the progress one could see without being held back. What if it were the first to end sexism, for instance? What if others followed it's lead? Most likely not knowing humanity's behavior, but it's a tempting thought. I also have to wonder that if there were enough of us seen, it'd show the world we exist. Almost like a pride parade, but much bigger? That probably wouldn't happen overnight either, but weighing pros and cons here...

I think Canada will suit me decently however when I finally get there. It's order will cure my own madness.

I can't see any way for this to work. It's probably not even possible since there's no way to tell if kids are gay or not until they're teenagers so no one would be able to have children since most would end up straight.
