If you've seen the trailers. What do you think? Apparently they're shying away from the fact Freddie was gay ( as much as they can) & had Aids. Evidently Brian May and Roger Taylor were trying to avoid anything remotely controversial In 2018? Part of me gets they're trying to respect Freddies legacy, but I don't know about this. While he told an extremely few amount of people he was sick, everyone knew he was gay.
Freddie Mercury was actually bisexual, although a lot of people seem to mistake him for gay. I'm excited that there will be a movie about him but it's disappointing that they're shying away from certain aspects of his life. I don't think it would cause any controversy...I'm pretty sure everyone knows he wasn't straight and that he suffered from HIV and eventually AIDS. However, I'm going to respect Brian May and Roger Taylor's decision, I'm sure they have reasons behind it. Maybe they just didn't want the focus to be on that, I don't know. I think I'll still see it anyway though.
This is so true. This is bi erasure. Both Mary and Jim will be featured prominently in the film from the looks of the IMDb page, so that will probably clear that misconception up to the general public.
I am sooo excited to see this! OMG! I cant wait! Im so excited to see the love story of Freddie and Mary in film! Also, are we not gonna talk about how fucking lit the music in the movie trailer is???!!! I was in awe.
Why does the media always shy away from anything LGBT? Anything I see LGBT related is generally negative or very judging of the whole movement
I'm causiously optimistic, but I'll wait to see other trailers before making a decision of whether to support the movie or not. In my eyes, they have to show him as his true self which is an openly bisexual guy who had a serious illness. Makes no sense to have a movie otherwise.
Because Hollywood doesn’t have a spine, studios don’t want to risk losing out on the almighty dollar at foreign markets where the population is extremely homophobic (China and Russia for example).
I agree with ya. I was sooo excited for the movie to come out, and then to find they're going to shy away from certain aspects is still bothering me. Definitely going to wait and see if anymore trailers will be coming out
