I came out to a friend of mine that I was attracted to. I wasnt sure but was fairly certain he liked guys. The coming out to him and letting him know my feelings went very badly, he outed me to a female, said hurtful things to me and kicked me out of his life. After months of not talking we are somewhat communicating again, although I am very leery to interact with him on any level. We text occasionaly but I try to keep it short and lite or "strictly bussiness", so to speak. We were joking back and fourth on text one day and he says "Boy. We need to have a talk and ill introduce you to my pocket knife.". He tried to play it off but to me it seemed obvious that this was a penis metaphor. Do I just have a dirty mind?

I don't see a penis metaphor in that. It sounds more like a joking threat of killing you actually. It's hard to tell without the context of the entire conversation.

I wouldn't take that as a metaphor.... more like a threat like Destin said.

Without the context it definitely sounds like a threat.

Crap, I'd be terrified if I received that.

This does not sound like an innuendo at all to me :S

Not an innuendo, you have a very hopeful mind to eveneconsider that in thistsituation, and meeting with him seems quite dangerous both emotionally and even maybe physically.

Yeah, I agree with the other members who responded and I'm not seeing that as a penis metaphor at all. Taken at face value it sounds like a veiled threat to me. Why was it obviously a penis metaphor, to you?

You said you had a joking back and forth going on before he sent that comment and then he attempted to play it off, so can you offer more context? What did you say in response that caused him to play it off?

Never heard that before. Not sure its a metaphor but could be depending on your convo. Doesn't sound good though.

Everyone's so serious. He would likely hurt me emotionally as someone mentioned but never hurt me physically. Plus, has no one heard the old quote " Is that a gun in your pocket? Or are you just happy to see me?."?

That is a lot different than telling someone "One more word and I'll introduce you to my fist" which is a quote that is almost identical to what he said.

It’s better to side with caution in situations like this.

At least in my opinion, it is.

I'd keep this guy at a distance given what he did when you came out. Don't be too trusting.

Well, you did ask for our opinion, even though you seem to have reached a different conclusion.

My response to that would be...

"If you show me yours I'll show you mine."

And I'm actually carrying a pocket knife right now.

We didn't have the context, granted, so you might be right and it was an innuendo, but that would not be my first guess at all :s

For some reason I think you are giving this guy way too many passes. He treated you like shit, dropped you like you meant nothing and now tons of people are telling you that you should be worried.

Listen, there are still a lot of people out there who hate gay people. The "gay panic" defense is still legal and straight guys have killed gay guys for simply hitting on them and gotten away with it in court. The most recent known case just happened not too long ago: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/texas-james-miller-gay-panic_us_5ae35296e4b04aa23f22efe8

I would honestly ask yourself why you insist in being friends with a guy who has so little respect for you as a person.

Wow! I had no idea that existed. How can that possibly be legal and not be considered discrimination? It says they can use the victim's sexual orientation or gender identity as justification for the crime. That's like literally the definition of discrimination but it says it's allowed in 48 states. There's no way a straight guy that killed a girl could say it was because she was hitting on him and get away with it, so what the heck is the difference here other than discrimination.

Nope. No. Uh-uh. Unless there was a very different context in your prior "joking" back and forth there is no way I'd take that as a penis metaphor.

Homophobia. Literally that's it. The argument is that a straight guy can be so repulsed by homosexuality that they momentarily go insane and act in "self-defense." Its a similar argument that applies to "crimes of passion". It's all bullshit and based on cultural norms. This is what institutional oppression looks like sadly.
