Can you be brutal with me? Or at least real and critical?

I like this quote, and it's very true.

I like your new piece a lot. The 1st and 5th paragraphs especially have some powerful depictions of emotion. I think there's still a slight journalistic tendency which pokes its head in at times which feels a little detached and distracts a bit from the strong emotion of the piece, but I think that comes from the fact that you are analytical and self-aware, which is a good thing. You'll work out your style and voice as you go on.

Don't be embarrassed by your first attempts. First drafts are just your rough ideas. One very good writing coach said that first drafts are always bad, and I've certainly found it's the case when it comes to my writing. I admire your openness to criticism, by the way.

I think I was a bit muddled in the last message, sorry about that. I have a virus which is addling my brain right now.
