I mean I don't hate her or anything, but her music does nothing for me. And I've met gay men who react as if I personally insulted them by saying I'm not a fan of Kylie. I just don't understand why so many gay guys are obsessed with her. I like a lot of female artists, including Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Celine Dion, and a lot of other artists who aren't even very well known. And while I've never been a fan of Madonna, I can understand what people like about her, especially her earlier music. What is it about Kylie Minogue that I'm just not getting?

I recognized Celine Dion and Madonna in your post (and it's not the kind of music i listen to). Never heard of the others.

I find myself fascinated about stereotypes like this, I’ve never listened to her music but I am curious to give it a try.

Seems she's not so popular around here. Where I come from, not being a Kylie fan is practically regarded as a form of homophobia.

She is lovely. She is gorgeous. She is sweet. I'd like her whether I was heterosexual, bi, gay, pan, trans. I'm not obsessed with her. You brought up the topic. I'd guess that there are and have been a number of females like Kylie who have such a wide appeal. As a child I liked Judy Garland because of her being in thetWizard of Oz - because she seemed the ideal girlfriend. I found the cartoon character Betty Boop very appealing - but then she was created to be very appealing. And didn't men go for Marilyn Monroe in the same way? So, who did / do you like?

It could be something to do with the male dancers who cavort around on stage with her. It certainly keeps me entertained!

I've seen that dynamic, where gay / maybe bi men really like female divas. If I don't like their music, I won't be liking them. Of anyone mentioned, the only one I like is Tina Turner. She represents a resurgence. Not only that, she's feisty, real, and has a sultry voice like no other. The song "Private Dancer" did it for me. Try driving down a lonely road with a menacing sky and listening to that song. It will move you.

I enjoy her music--but I tend to like that genre (makes me nostalgic for my younger days when I went out dancing several nights a week). I also do enjoy the fact that her videos tend to be well-stocked with attractive men. But it's more like I am pleasantly surprised when I encounter one of her songs. I don't think I even own a single song. On a side note I get the impression she's much more popular outside of the US. I think you have to be kind of old-guard gay (like myself) to even be that aware of her here.

Interesting topic. All Kylie fans I know are gay men and I've asked myself the same question.

I already mentioned who I do like, and I like them because of their music, not because I think they are nice people. If I hear a song and like the sound of it, I don't really care how lovely the singer is, it's not like I'm going to meet her.

Well you asked why they were fascinated by her, so perhaps the reason why a lot of gay men like her isn’t music related at all.

Nice Dave, all sorts of people like Kylie. She has universal appeal. And of course it starts with people liking her music, singing and performance.

of course a lot of people who aren't gay men like her, I'm asking what it is about her work that attracts so many gay men (Besides having hunky male backing dancers.). I'm not hating her or her fans, she just hasn't had the effect on me that she has on so many gay men.

Kylie is extremely talented but she is mostly popular in Europe. Outside of Europe no one really knows who she is although they might have heard songs from her.

She is doesn't have the worldwide appeal of a Madonna.

I only got who you were speaking about when you added the last name, I know one or two songs by that chick that I both absolutely don’t like and I have no interest in that person at all and know nothing about her other than the name and those two songs. Neither do I like or care about Madonna, Celine Dion and Tina Turner. And who the hell are all the other chicks I don’t know any of them?
So as far as my judgement goes I’d say that I am far from being obsessed with or fascinated by Kylie Minogue, I’d rather describe it as indifference mixed with finding that kind of music she makes more than just unpleasant to the ear x’D

The love of LGBT people with female divas has been a thing for a while now. I have read a couple theories about why it happens, but for the most part each singer has been vocally supportive for LGBT people in one way or another. Usually their lyrics have to do with overcoming adversity and being strong when things go bad.

For the most part, every single LGBT person I know has their Diva. There is one female singer that just seems to connect with them and every person seems to have this very firm connection that usually comes at the right time. In the other hand, the thing that happens a lot is gay guys who try to distance themselves from Divas to prove their are different than the "other gays". Its a fun dance to watch.
