    Hi
    I've read somewhere that there are more left-handed people in the LGBT than in the general popularion. I'm curious if that proves true on our site. It's not serious research or anything, just my curiousity. I'm ambidextrious, genderqueer and bisexual myself.

    I would say I'm mixed handed, I write and draw with my right hand, but I do other things left handed or both... I bat left handed, basketball I shoot dominantly left handed, but can shoot with my right hand also, and I can throw with either hand I would say just as equally. I wouldn't say I'm ambidextrous though.

    Hmmm bad that I can't change the poll options... mixed or both handed seems like a better desceiption. I also do some things with my right hand and others with left. I got used to using my right hand for precise things like writing and drawing, but other than that, it's quite mixed. And I can write with my left hand too and sometimes do.

    For what it's worth, there are about 5 million (slight exaggeration) threads in the EC archive about this. Over time, it seems like about 30% of EC members responding are left-handed. This is also consistent with other experiences I've had in real life that a disproportionate number of gay men are left-handed.

    Random guess, but maybe it has something to do with a higher likelihood to have recessive genetic traits?

    Right hand = dominant - Left hand = recessive

    Straight = dominant - Gay = recessive

    Brown eyes = dominant - Blue eyes = recessive

    So maybe those with the recessive left handed genetic trait are also more likely to have the recessive gay trait too, and the more recessive traits there are the more likely the person is to be gay.

    I think this is likely indicative of some sort of genetic, probably recessive, link as well. It's possible it's a spurious correlation but it seems unlikely.

    I'm strange. (Well, we all knew that. LOL) But I write with my right hand, but it's very possible that I was born left handed. Or so my parents speculated. (There were signs that I might be left handed. But I was apparently taught to write with my right hand in preschool or wherever.)

    That seems possible. I think I may have had thoughts like that.

    I’m mixed-handed (not the same as ambidextrous) but I’d say my right hand is more dominant...some things I can do with either hand or I feel more comfortable using my left but some things I do exclusively with my right hand.

    technically I am left handed and right handed at the same time, either works just fine. I can do activities and switch hands back and forth virtually no difference

    Ambidextrous here :slight_smile:
    It runs in my family lol...my grandpa and one of my uncles are also ambidextrous. I do prefer to write with my right hand though. However, I basically do almost everything else with my left or equally with either hand. It freaks people out sometimes, so that’s always fun.
