    Skate for life!!!

Perfect blend of sport and art.

However I think it’s ridiculous that the role models and leaders of the sport still find it not “cool” to wear a helmet! Vert and mega require it but the street skate scene is still have to catch up.

It's one of those things I'd love to get into if I wasn't clumsy and afraid of getting hurt, like snowboarding, biking, and parkour.

I think it's totally rad and honestly wish I could stand on top a skateboard without falling on my ass.

I actually think that knee pads and elbow pads are probably most important. I haven't hit my head yet but I've bruised both elbows and am lucky they aren't broken.

I think skateboarding is great, Sadly I have a low pain tolerance so I don’t skateboard very often, but I do enjoy long boarding!

True, however that will stay the case until you hit your head. Having worked with countless TBI patients the brain is super important. I recommend watching Crash Reel if you haven’t already.

True. Same goes for skiing and snowboarding.

I think if you're learning how to drop in or learning a new trick then you should probably wear a helmet, but just for skating down the street you're more likely to break an elbow than anything else, as far as I know, at least.

I had a BMX bicycle when I was a child, so I kind of understand why people love skating

Now I just have a mountain bicycle

I used to do it because I wanted to look cool, but I stopped when I decided I would join the armed forces. I don't want to fall off and have a broken bone ruin my plans.

Same here. Mtn biking is so much fun, and so far I haven’t been too hurt from it.

I like to board. It can be dangerous but only if you're not careful. I've been skateboarding for nearly 4 years and the worst that ever happened to me was a twisted ankle. It's really fun though, and more mobile than a bike.

That's awesome! Do you know if 52mm wheels are too small for skating around a college campus with lots of ground covered in bricks and cracks?

Skateboarding is interesting and entertaining. I admire people who can skate very well, it's definitely an intense sport and requires skill and practice. I had a phase when I was a teen where I skated for a few years, but that's been a lifetime ago, haha, it seems. I think it's great, but gets a bad rep from some due to the stereo typical thought that all skaters are vandals. I understand that some people don't have the luxury of having a local skate park or traveling hours to one, and they wanna skate, in turn they end up going out and finding places to skate which may result in property damage.. And some may actually purposefully cause damages, but we could say that about some people who dislike skateboarding as well.

I had a friend who was an amazing 'roller-blader'. I thought it was pretty cool and I definitely think any kind of passionate hobbies are very attractive attributes of people but I never felt the desire to learn myself.

I know rollerblading is slightly different, but a lot of tricks are comparable.

Depends on your skill level. Personally I’d want something closer to 60-70mm. You want a softer compound as well.

Like Totesgaybrah said, you may want something a little bigger. My first board had 52mm wheels but I got another one which is like a longboard and has wider, softer wheels. The second one has by far been easier, faster, and safer to ride. And I got it for under $50 (the exact brand is Kryptonics if you wanted to check them out). Best of luck and happy skating!

Yeah I might do that. I really like my skateboard but it keeps getting stuck in cracks.

I want to like this, but I can't.
