Not sure if it's your thing but I have read some by Carlos Castaneda - undecided whether its based on real events but I enjoyed them and thought they were engagingly written. Teachings of Don Juan/A Separate Reality/Journey to Ixtlan are all good imho.
The last book I finished was Radio Silence by Alice Oseman. It was such a good book I couldn't put it down. Tons of lgbt rep too!
On the Road by Jack Kerouac. i grew to love everything concerning the beat generation, but this book truly is the one for me. frankly, most Kerouac's works are dear to my heart, but i recommend to check out On the Road first and see if you like it
I have two one is called Wings by E.D Baker the second one is Switched by Amanda Hocking there are all fantasy books by the way. Amanda Hocking is a great author I read that she was a stay at home mom when she wrote her best selling series pretty neat.
My favorite book is More Than This by Patrick Ness. Honestly, I could probably reread it a million times and never get sick of it. The last book I read was Gracefully Grayson by Ami Polonsky and it was brilliant. It was so well-written and the ending made me happy lol.
Two facofavor of the last couple of years are Openly Straight and Simon Vs the Homo sapiens (which is being made into a major movie)
My favorite book of all time is Secretariat, as I am a huge horse racing fan. The second best would have to be To Kill A Mockingbird and the third favorite would have to be The Martian
I'm really not a big fan of fiction, but I did enjoy Veronica Mars: The Thousand Dollar Tan Line, although it really helps if you've seen the show and movie that preceded it.
Eragon (Inheritance Cycle). I was younger, so maybe if i read it today, i won't find it too impressive, but, based on what i remember, it is still the best book i have read so far.
The Eragon books were good but way too long and way too violent and they made me uncomfortable with some if the stuff that went on. Unconventional lovers by Annette Mori is a sweet story. Everything by Ali Spooner. Providing sex scenes won't bother you. Though the people in her books mostly eat food I've never had. I really hope gators tail is a nickname fir something and not actually a gators tail. And since when was gravy white.
I don't know if you're looking for LGBT+ books or just books in general. Some good LGBT+ stand alone books are: Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (Bejamin Alire Saenz) The Song of Achilles (Madeline Miller) The Price of Salt (Patricia Highsmith) More Than This (Patrick Ness) Fingersmith (Sarah Waters) Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (Becky Albertalli) Huntress (Malinda Lo) Non LGBT+ stand alone books: We All Looked Up (Tommy Wallach) We Were Liars (E. Lockhart) Some good book ~series~ with LGBT+ (imo) are: TSC (several series encompassing several time periods but all in the universe, there are LGBT main characters in every series except TID) Six of Crows (a duology by Leigh Bardugo) All For The Game (a trilogy you can purchase digitally for cheap, author is Nora Sakavich, but it does have a lot of heavy subject matter so be warned) The Raven Cycle (a surreal read, Maggie Stiefvater) A lot of these are just YA books so if that's not your thing, then my bad. Regardless, I hope you find something good to read!
The Dark Tower series by King is pretty damn awesome. Even better since it is finished so you don't have to wait ten years for the next book to come out. The Road to Damascus by John Ringo and Linda Evans. It is science fiction kind of like Issac Asimov, in that it tells a story, but it makes you think about deeper psychological and political things. Super AI sometimes being more human than the humans it serves kind of thing. For straight fantasy check out any of the books with Gotrek and Felix, not sure if Josh Reynolds wrote them all. It is set in the Warhammer universe, but both characters are interesting and you don't need to know any of the Warhammer lore to enjoy it. It is a bit Lord of The Rings ish, just darker and with a more British humor and wit. Gotrek is a grumpy badass dwarf, with a mohawk, looking for a glorious death and Felix is just along to write Gotrek's story. The problem is Gotrek is a badass, so he keeps winning.
