Some of those albums you mentioned like Rihanna, Mary J Blige, The Weekend and Bruno are from 2016. That made me realize just how much of an amazing year 2016 was for music.

Yes, you are right about that ... however, because their popularity had ascended to greater sales in and relevancy in 2017..that is why I mentioned them. In fact, these albums are still on the Billboard Charts.

Point taken but it's only recently that albums charting beyond their release year has become such an anomaly. If we were talking about singles then that would be a different matter as you could have singles released in 2017 from a 2016 album.

That is so true as well...but you know in all honesty...I am not that crazy about the majority of music that has been released as of recent years. I've been listening to a lot of old r&b soul music and funk and pop and jazz as of late. More substance as well as meaningful for me...The music today pretty much sounds like the artists have not put much into creating it.

I'll instead list the albums I listened to for the first time in 2017 because I don't tend to keep up with pop music and I like the classics

    1) Toxicity - System Of A Down
    2) The Wall - Pink Floyd
    3) In Rainbows - Radiohead
    4) The Satanist - Behemoth
    5) Self titled - The Velvet Underground & Nico
    6) Kid A - Radiohead
    7) Monolith of Inhumanity - Cattle Decapitation
    8) Mesmerize - System Of A Down
    9) The B sides of Amnesiac - Radiohead
    10) Tie between greatest hits album of Boney M, and a greatest hits album of The Smiths

I've just realized I misspelled Archspire & messed up one CD name

    Archspire - Relentless Mutation
    Beast in Black - Berserker

It's about 500 million years too late to edit it, so screw it

Then what are the top 10 albums you discovered in 2017? Release year doesn't matter
Same question to anyone else if they want to answer that way

I think it's because some artistes feel pressured to overwhelm the public with what they put out and disregard quality.

Top 10 albums I discovered in 2017, well I did a lot of discovering in 2017 and finished my digital music collection with a total of 2622 songs.

So first with my top 10 albums I discovered this year, I will explain why I liked them after the artist and the name of the song.

    10. Kate Bush-Hounds of Love(I never listened when I was young, and I had no real idea that her music sounded so amazing so even though I knew she existed, I gave her music a listen this year and I loved this album)
    9. Momoiro Clover Z-5th Dimension(I love the kind of geeky style this pop idol group has, and yes they are Japanese pop idol girl group).
    8. Jenny Hval-Blood Bitch(a very kind of particular music, I like the sound of this album a lot)
    7. Colorama-Box(Just a kind of varied sound and I love the way the album sounds and a few of the songs are sung in Welsh)
    6. Icon of Coil-Machines are Us(a very harsh industrial sound and a very good futurepop album)
    5. Dvar-Deii Prt I(a very weird experimental album but really it sounds so different and the combination of classical with electronic adds a modern twist to the classical style of music, think Beethoven Electronic 9th Symphony from A Clockwork Orange and that's a similar sound)
    4. Alcazar-Alcazarised(Now my cheesy album is at number 4, just because this year my crush was Magnus Carlsson(who is a member of the band for two albums, I'm not talking about the chess player, I'm talking about a hot cute Swedish guy)
    3. Coco Solid-The Radical Bad Attack(a electroclash rap album by a New Zealand girl and the album has so many geeky pop culture references in the lyrics and because of that and me being a proud geek who loves geeky references I have this one at no 3).
    2. Valravn-Koder Pa Snor(The album is in Danish but yet it is a brilliant folktronica album and who knew that Nordic folk went so well with electronic).
    1. VERSAILLES-Holy Grail(my number one album is by a Japanese Visual Kei group and I totally loved the style they had when watching a music video, but ultimately the guy singing has a lovely voice that just sounds amazing).

There were only 4 I really listened to, but when I went through the list of albums I should check out, there were a lot more.

    1. Lotta Sea Lice - Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile
    2. Something to Tell You - HAIM
    3. Warmer in the Winter - Lindsey Stirling
    4. Feel Your Feelings Fool - The Regrettes
