Hello EmptyClosets! A few months ago I posted a thread helping me choose a non binary name. But the past me did not yet know I was, in fact, a boy. Silly past me. Anyway, I chose a name (Adrien) and I still like it to this day. However, I’ve discovered my mom does not like that name! At least, she doesn’t like it for boys. Also, the name Adrien is unisex, and I don’t want people getting confused. So if anyone has any masc name suggestions, please comment them! I like the names Lucas and Tyler so far.
Maybe Aiden? Honestly I looked at top name charts for my birth year and common names to find mine. Cause I knew I wanted a common name.
Have you asked your mom what names she does like for boys then? I did that when I was choosing my name, and even though I didn't end up going with one of her suggestions, I think she appreciated being included in the process.
Can you ask her what your name would have been if you were a boy? And/or about any of your siblings, if you have any?
Ohhh ok. From the original post I'd assumed you had asked directly about using the name for yourself, my bad. In that case, you could try to ask more sneakily what male names she likes, if you want to try that. I also second AlexJames's recommendation of looking at name charts for your birth year.
I don't really have that many suggestions of my own but I just have a few comments. I have actually heard of Aiden and Austin being used on girls so I would classify them as unisex. I'd say Aiden is more 50/50 whereas Austin is mostly masculine. The only other two syllable male names starting with A that I can think of are Anton and Arthur. Or Angus, maybe. And I think Adrien is fine, honestly. The only female Adrien (or rather, Adrian) I know is from the Rocky movies and they're rather old, I don't really hear anyone reference them much anymore even with the Apollo Creed movie that came out a few years ago. Usually, for a girl, it'd be spelt Adrienne anyway. And even if your mom doesn't like it now, I'm sure she'll come around to it eventually. I mean, it's her son's name and she loves you so she shouldn't care what you're named. The suggestion of asking what you would've been called if you were born a boy is also a good idea.

I just sneakily brought it up into conversation with my mum. We were speaking about someone we knew who had just had a baby so I asked if they had a name yet then just carried on with the conversation working it round to how it must be difficult to pick a name and asked if they had thought of other names for me, for if I was a girl or a boy. (Sadly she didn’t have any boy names picked out even though they didn’t know I was going to be born female). She didn’t seem to think it was a strange conversation! Maybe an idea? Or bring up someone with an unusual name and just try and ask around that?
Glad you got to have that talk with your mom. Sucks that she didn't have any names to bring up, though. Yeah i figured she wouldn't think it strange, I've always thought it was a normal thing to be interested in especially if you've watched them try to come up with a name for a younger sibling. That's an idea, but i would be cautious. Me personally i'd be scared to push it too far or talk about it too much at once. What i did when thinking about my name is pick a first name i liked and a middle name that's the given name of a family member - my middle name could be my way of honoring my family.
