    I expected an even higher percentage tbh. But nonetheless, congratulations! I know it's not binding, but it seems pretty likely that the Parliament will vote to legalize it soon

    It is good news and it passed by a large margin, despite the hyperbole of the no campaign, but it's now up to Malcolm Turnbull's government to enact the will of the people without issue or delay and that's really unlikely to happen. Members of his own party are expected to frustrate the process and insist on exclusions in education and on the grounds of religious freedom. Still some way to go.

    Well done, Australia! I know it wasn't a binding vote, but I heard they are supposedly going to try to get a bill through before Christmas. If that's the case, Australia will become the 26th country, I believe, to legalize gay marriage. I'm so happy.

    (Although, personally there is something extremely off-putting about it. LGBT didn't have a say if straight people could get married. If you dont like it dont marry the same sex. Maybe I'm just in a unrelated bad mood and its rubbing off idk).

    I'm so glad its finally happening, just would hate this to be up to one person, ie primeminister. we all need a say in this and its happened.

    Well, considering that (some of) the Liberals have already said they're going to do anything to delay the process of legalizing gay marriage if the 'Yes' vote wins, I'm not feeling entirely optimistic that anything will be happening soon. But I'll happily welcome my country to the 21st Century in any case because it's a step in the right direction.

    The House of Representatives has just voted on same-sex marriage without any additional religious exemptions from the Senate bill. It's been done, the bill will now be passed on for royal assent without any further delays.
