As humans we need to look close at what we are really doing to each other

Ok, sure. Ban owning xyz weapon? But then only criminals will have them, so we shouldn't do that. Ban the killing of another human being? But then only the criminals will do it, so let's make that legal, too. Ban taking another person's property? But then only criminals will do it, so I guess that should be legal. Have laws? But then only criminals will break them, so let's just not have any laws. Your logic is flawed.

Additionally, gun control laws are not in any way, shape, or form about taking away self defdnse, they are about being reasonable. If you can explain why you need to be allowed to own semi-automatic weapon, assault rifle, or other high powered killing machine for self defense, by all means, enlighten us, and we'll let you have your weapon. I can see why you'd want a small handgun, or even a hunting rifle or shotgun if you live in a rural area where the cops will take upwards of 15 minutes to arrive or to have in case you are attacked on the street. In my opinion, those are reasonable weapons to have for self defense. I don't see why you need to be able to kill large quantities of people in only a few seconds, much less how owning a weapon of that caliber can be called "self defense."

Well part of the problem is that society still thinks they need to stay out of domestic issues, so when things like this happen to wives, husbands, children and pets and even elders, people barely blink, but then someone goes out and does something like this. Suddenly society deems it a problem.

How dare you. Regarding the hateful ignorant comment regarding Muslims, you'd think having Muslim family members and having a best friend from Bahrain whom is Muslim and confides all the things, regarding Shia and Sunni and history that I've in part shared here, that maybe I would have some meaning and depth to my words; but let's call me the hateful one for only speaking truth.
If you're going to make a direct attack on my character maybe you should get to know me first, my history and where I come from instead of speaking false conjecture. All religion is effectively the same to me at the end of the day, be it Atheism or Islam or Buddhism or Hinduism, I have spent many hours researching and speaking to individuals of all walks of life, but a reasoning person can always come together in spite of personal beliefs to converse and co-exist. Even if I don't support Islam, that does not mean I do not support Muslims, they are still human beings worthy of love and respect, they are my brothers and sisters.

This news article was about an atrocious event that turned into political ideology, of which there is never a winner. Going to leave this topic since nothing fruitful will come of it and I've spoken my peace. leaving this here, and then continuing about my day.

We believe in Marx, Freud, and Darwin
    We believe everything is OK
as long as you don't hurt anyone,
to the best of your definition of hurt,
and to the best of your knowledge.

We believe in sex before, during, and after marriage.
We believe in the therapy of sin.
We believe that adultery is fun.
We believe that sodomy is OK.
We believe that taboos are taboo.

We believe that everything is getting better
    despite evidence to the contrary.
    The evidence must be investigated
And you can prove anything with evidence.

    We believe there's something in
    horoscopes, UFO's and bent spoons;
    Jesus was a good man
just like Buddha, Mohammed, and ourselves.
He was a good moral teacher
although we think His good morals were bad.

We believe that all religions are basically the same--
at least the one that we read was.
They all believe in love and goodness.
They only differ on matters of
creation, sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation.

We believe that after death comes the Nothing
Because when you ask the dead what happens they say nothing.
If death is not the end, if the dead have lied,
then it's compulsory heaven for all
excepting perhaps Hitler, Stalin, and Genghis Khan.

We believe in Masters and Johnson.
    What's selected is average.
    What's average is normal.
    What's normal is good.

    We believe in total disarmament.
We believe there are direct links between warfare and bloodshed.
Americans should beat their guns into tractors
and the Iranians would be sure to follow.

We believe that man is essentially good.
It's only his behavior that lets him down.
This is the fault of society.
Society is the fault of conditions.
Conditions are the fault of society.

We believe that each man must find the truth that is right for him.
    Reality will adapt accordingly.
    The universe will readjust.
    History will alter.
We believe that there is no absolute truth
excepting the truth that there is no absolute truth.

We believe in the rejection of creeds,
and the flowering of individual thought.

If chance be the Father of all flesh,
disaster is his rainbow in the sky,
    and when you hear

    "State of Emergency!
    Sniper Kills Ten!
    Troops on Rampage!
    Youths go Looting!
    Bomb Blasts School!"

It is but the sound of man worshiping his maker.

"This isn't about guns". Ok then you have to admit that USA is one fucked up place. As in, REALLY fucked up. Because, if you compare mass shootings and gun violence to other countries, the difference is NIGHT and DAY.

IMO, gun permits should only be given after comprehensive mental health tests, state-managed, with the possibility to challenge a potential refusal in court.

If even only one person dies so that people can have easy access to guns, you need to be SICK IN THE HEAD to go like "that's the cost of freedom, yeah". Sick in the head.

Yes. We all know that the United States is sadly deprived of a standing army and must rely on its volunteer church shooters to engage in military action to protect American interests.

Since the mass shooting in Las Vegas on October 1st, there have been thirty-five mass shootings across the US.

And tragically, although the Texas shooting last week was one of the worst, it was also the fifth mass shooting that took place in Texas since the Las Vegas incident, with an average of one mass shooting per week.

You can't tell me that this is an inevitable thing that cannot be prevented, because only recently have we had all these shootings, and only in the U.S. does it occur.
I'm skeptical of the claim that it's solely due to gun control, since there wasn't much gun control decades ago and we didn't have all these mass shootings then. I'm thinking more on mental health.

Not true. Mass shootings have happened most continually during the Civil Rights/Segregation period 1950s/1960s towards black churches and black people like myself.

Gun control has never been a thing in America. We have always had the second amendment right, an most likely for now, will the foreseeable future always be protected and respected to have it.

Mental health, yes that is a big concern. There are just sick people in this world, and they are mentally ill.
