I'm curious about this. What are some songs that were not written about or for the LGBT community the you could feel may apply to us? To me there are 2 off the top of my head that could be. The first is I Will Not bow by Breaking Benjamin. It's about not letting someone rule you and standing up proud. Another is The Unforgiven by Metallica. It feels a lot to me that we are condemned for being who we are. Can you think of any that may apply?
I actually think a few Katy Perry songs could apply, particularly "Firework", "Part of Me", and one song off her new album, "Power" Other songs I can think of: "We R Who We R"- Kesha "Wild"-Troye Sivan "True Colors"- Cyndi Lauper
There She Goes by Sixpence None The Richer ((even though it's actually about heroin...)) Secret Love Song by Little Mix Girl Crush by Little Big Town You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift (?? I've heard people say this sounds like a lesbian love song but I don't really hear it) Reflection from Mulan And of course, Let It Go from Frozen
(Thrash Metal) This is basically a big 'fuck you' to ignorance. Plus there is a line about crushing homophobia. I think it's one of the weakest songs on the album, but whatever (Death Metal) This is about thinking for yourself & forging your own path. Plus other songs such as "Just Be Yourself" on the CD could apply to some degree (Heavy Metal) This could be about straight or gay blowjobs or even just about exploding with rage Also it doesn't seem to have its own YouTube video but "Rise To Victory" by Lonewolf reminds me of my own journey
Accept - Love Child and Balls To The Wall Dio - Invisible (also Judas Priest - Raw Deal but that is completely homoerotic) All heavy metal
This is an old song by Melanie Safka titled "Wear it Like Flag." She sings of being proud of loving whomever she wants to love and openly wearing her expression of love like a flag for all to see. It's amazing this wonderful song was never picked up as a gay anthem.
Wouldn't It Be Nice, The Beach Boys - these lyrics speak to me like wouldn't it be nice if we were older and lived in a world that was more accepting. also it talks about dreaming about living a happy life with the one you love, which for many of us has felt impossible at some point. Greatest Love of All, Whitney Houston Make Your Own Kind of Music, Cass Elliot
