What is your favorite genre of video games? And since genres can be very broad, I would be interested to know what some of your favorite games in the genres are. To start off, my favorite genre is the RTS genre, I was introduced to the genre before I could read, so I always used to memorize what the menu was, and what all of the units were. Some of my favorites are Age of Mythology (grew up with and have always played the titans expansion), Dawn of War (specifically dark crusade), and Universe at War: Earth assault. I find that Open RA (free source port of C&C Tiberian Dawn, C&C Red Alert, and Dune 2000) is a very good way of introducing newcomers into the genre, as it is more focused on strategy than how fast people can type *cough* *cough* Star Craft *cough* *cough*.
Medieval storytelling. Pretty much anything with knights, wizards, creatures such as dragons ogres trolls and the like. If I can find something that is a plausible mix of sci-fi and fantasy I usually love it. Final Fantasy 8 and Blaster Master are masterpieces. But I should probably mention that FF8 is pretty much the only ff I actually like. I have all of them up to 15 but most I'm not a fan of.
RTS is my favorite as well. C&C series is my top favorite. Especially Red Alert 3 and Tiberium Wars (+ Kane's Wrath), that one also because it was one of the very few games that I managed to convince both my dad and brother to play it with me, and they both actually enjoyed it. Age of Empires is a nostalgy for me. I also enjoy StarCraft 2, but only on a casual level, and just certain aspects of the game. But I also like a lot of games outside of the RTS genre.
RPGs or fighting games. Although some of my fave games are from other genres Some of the games I've spent an insane amount of time playing; BlazBlue series, Civilization series, Disgaea series, Dragon's Dogma, Dynasty Warriors series, Final Fantasy series, Gran Turismo series, Gundam Versus series, Hatsune Miku series, Hyperdimension Neptunia series, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Minecraft, Music 2000, Pokemon series, Sonic Adventure 2, Soulsborne series, Soulcalibur II, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Smash Bros Melee, Tales of series, and Wipeout series My fave activities in games tend to be; intense battles, killing things, collecting weapons, and designing things
Most of the stuff I play are either RPG's, or Grand Strategy games. Some of my favorite games are: World of Warcraft, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and 4 (didn't really like New Vegas), Fable 2, Assassins Creed 2, Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age inquisition, Mass Effect Andromeda (yes, I actually liked Mass Effect Andromeda), Crusader Kings 2, Europa Universalis 4, Hearts of Iron 4, and Stellaris.
Yea, grand strategies come close behind RTS games for me, I still need to learn how to play CK2 though.
Ya, CK2 can be pretty hard to get into, the learning curve is kind of steep, but it's worth it. I'd recommend getting some of the DLC's if you haven't, The Old Gods and Horse Lords are the best, and Way of Life adds a lot of fun flavor stuff. If you wait for a sale you can get them pretty cheep too.
used to love fps games but these days they are all the same imo. did like the new doom last year. find myself playing rpgs alot these days
