I am 16 and lesbian. I want to come out to my parents but I am scared. My parents are both really religious people and I am afraid of what they will think and do. Any advise and help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know when I plan on coming out to my parents but I do know I am tired of hiding in the closet.

Kinley, You will be fine. I have two children and I only pray they would feel ok to tell me they are changing orientation or gender one way or the other. I would hate to think of them grumbling though life without being happy. I know how bad it hurts- I did for the longest time. I would go to your mom first. Get the female empathy on you side and then the both of you can talk with your dad.

Hey there! I know how you feel, hiding in the closet nervously. If you want to know beforehand if your parents are accepting of LGBT+ matters, maybe mention something about how same sex marriage was recently legalized somewhere (I’m not sure if it was recently legalized someplace, you’ll have to check for yourself.) You could also make up a lie and say one of you’re friends just came out as whatever, and see how your parents react!

    I hope this helped.
