Hold on... what is Victoria sponge? US ladies and @beenthrdonetht I need your help here. Is this a British thing or has my Midwest upbringing just not allowed me to experience anything beyond sheet cakes?
A Victoria Sponge is a sponge cake with a jam and cream centre. And now I really want some with a huge cup of tea. (We adore our tea in Ireland the same as the British )
That sounds wonderful! A Texas sheet cake was the fancy cake where I grew up...always served with black coffee.
I wanted to say that I agree with Moonsparkle. You have every right to feel the way you do. Your feelings are valid and they matter
Update: Situation here gets worse by the minute. All my friends are chartering planes to leave the island. My siblings are being transferred out of their schools to new ones. My grandmother will be moved via an ambulance plane to texas. Kind of hoping they will send me with her. Texas is conservative but they will send her to Austin, which is pretty progressive. I could see myself living there. Puerto Rico is imploding. Meanwhile, I'm about to leave work, where I do nothing all day because wifi is crappy and I work in marketing (how am I meant to market something in apocalyptic conditions), but at least I have a job. Many don't. My neighbors are having a party tonight and I just almost don't want to go but I know I cant let myself shut down. Seems like all we do these days is drink the little alcohol we have left (government prohibited the sale of alcoholic beverages) so we can sleep at night in 95degree+ temperatures. On the other hand, I almost want to do my makeup and get pretty just to feel like a normal person, because I cant remember the last time I ran a brush through my hair. I probably look insane LOL.
Aww I'm so sorry you are having a tough time, I wish there was more we could do than just send words of encouragement. I hope you get out to anywhere at the moment at least that might give you a platform to work from. Take care of yourself. Go to the party if you can I'm sure you will feel better. I'm sure you look amazing anyway
I read your update and I am sorry that things seem to keep getting worse. I don't know how you're expected to work right now! But regarding the above, wouldn't it be a twist in all this if you did get sent to Austin with your grandmother. And you find you LOVE it there and settle down, become the marketing star of the USA, meet your new wonderful girlfriend at your job..and sail off into the sunset? Life can work in strange ways sometimes---you never know! And by all means GO TO THE PARTY! @silverhalo I am ALWAYS late to the party. But here I am, so I'll take a slice of Victoria Sponge cake AND Texas Sheet cake---and coffee OF COURSE! Happy Birthday!!!
@NeonSocks you place such trust in me! Now I was born in London so that gives me built-in authority to.. well to agree with @silverhalo, whose picture is worth a kilo-word. Wow. A few more spin classes after putting that down!
First off, I'm so glad you're ok but I'm sad for you and your friends/family losing so much. I hope you get to stay with your grandmother, Austin is supposed to be a great town. Sending big hugs. I'm so sorry this all happened to you. And yes - go to the party! Hang in there!
Well there was no avoiding the party. It ended up being at my house. But in conversation a few neighbors mentioned they are chartering planes to escape the island. I need to get outta here!
