It's a book, bit more civil rights, set during the desegregation of American state schools, but it focuses on a black girl who is lesbian but knows her sexuality is wrong who falls for a white girl.
    It's called
    Lies we tell ourselves

I am torn between the movies; "Latter Days and Noah's Arc: Jumping The Broom" as my two all time top favorite gay themed movies.

I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. It's told in two parts with a twin brother and sister, one's pov is in the past and the other's is in the present. It's a tie between that and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

This movie/book isn't completely LGBTQ+ based, but it's still really good, it's called "Perks Of Being A Wallflower"

Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About My Mother), Orlando, and Philadelphia. I cried so hard at the end of Philadelphia. The only straight up LGBT themed book I remember reading was,'Small Tunes for a Harmonica'. It was written in the 70's by Barbara Wersba.

The best movie I ever saw was "Longtime Companion." The movie follows several gay couples and friends during the time they first hear about the 'gay cancer' which of course became known as AIDS. It's a beautiful movie that chronicles their lives from the time they first hear about it through the folowing decade when AIDS was a death sentence for gay men. It shows how the LGBT community came together and went from partying every night to becoming compassionate caregivers to their friends and families as they fought for a cure. Some of them survive, but not everyone. The whole move was so moving, and the ending is just so powerful. It's a fictionalized account of a piece of our history, and I think it was one of the first LGBT movies that was widely embraced by the straight community. I've literally seen this movie a dozen times and have never gotten through it without crying at least once.

Longtime companion was the term used in the obituaries instead of partner or lover.

I loved the book Jerkbait! It did a really good job at handling topics of LGBT in sports and suicide. It was a great read and I would definitely recommend it.

I really want to read lgbtq+ books, but mostly books about lesbians, but I can never find any that aren't dirty. Does anyone know any good ones?

IDK about books, but my all time favorite LGBT+ movie is The Way He Looks. It's Brazilian, so there are subtitles, but it's about a blind boy named Leonardo who develops a crush on the new kid, Gabriel. They become friends but of course, they have their own school drama and identity issues to worry about.

Better Than Chocolate, The Incredibly True Adventure Of Two Girls In Love, Bound , (ditto) Carol, (ditto) But I'm A Cheerleader, (ditto) Imagine Me And You.

I also like The Talented Mr Ripley, though it's more about obsession than romance.

I quite enjoyed the book Tipping The Velvet.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Brokeback Mountain yet.

A favorite of mine is Ed Wood. It's about a director named Ed Wood, who was mostly a crossdresser, but was secretly gay. It's a Johnny Deppb movie, that was also directed by my favorite director, Tim Burton.

Sling Blade isn't really an LGBTQ movie, but one of the main characters is a gay man, and he goes thru hell for it.

Too many to count, but these have remained in my memory:

    - Les Chansons d'Amour
    - Closet Monster
    - Party Monster

Quite a few films by Gregg Araki. The Teen Apocalypse Trilogy, Mysterious Skin, and Splendor come to mind. They're not perfect but for some reason they've stuck to me, even though they're quite old, maybe it's because I watched them when I was still forming my identity or because they were the first in the genre, I don't know.
