It's from a book series called 'Skulduggery Pleasant' by an Irish author called Derek Landy. He also wrote 'The Demon Road' which though I didn't think it was as good, it was the first fantasy novel I'd read with a lesbian main character, so I was still impressed by his courage in doing that. And yeah, bird is better than slender man look alike.
