I don't smoke cigarettes and probably never will. I wouldn't mind a partner who smoked marijuana, but cigarettes are kinda bleh to me. Don't like the smell, or the secondhand smoke.

I've never smoked and I hate the smell, but I do find a man with a cigarette somewhat attractive. The attraction is gone once I can smell their breath though,

I am not old enough to smoke legally. But that aside, I am super against smoking.

There was a gay group I use to go to and I would say 80% of them smoked cigarettes. I only tried it twice and hated it both times. I use to be a frequent weed smoker although I've pretty much stopped now.

No. But, I've thought about it. It would be a really bad idea for my health if I did. A lot people think smoking is really sexy. This may help to explain the prevalence if there is any.

It's a disguisting and expensive habit. Especially watching what it does to someone important to me, I could never purposely put my friends/family through that much pain.

Hmm I reckon it is more common. Personally of the same opionion as OP; I find it kinda unattractive, mostly I don't like the smell. Plus if you go out with smokers for a drink they're always nipping off the have a smoke... then not coming back for ages cause they've struck up a convo with another smoker!

Maybe THAT'S why people smoke?! -to meet other people?!

Apart from myself there are 2 LGBT people I know personally. We all smoke, but I don't believe it correlates with that it's more like we are similar characters.

Yes it is more common in the LGBT community. There have been studies on this that proved so. Lesbians have the highest rates of smoking.

I hate smoke too. It makes me physically ill and I can't be around it. I would never date a smoker.

    Yes, I think it is.

I hate to say this, but I've seen it more in some segments of the gays and lesbians I know, and less in others. I've seen it less among white collar types.

A few of my friends who were obviously on their way to being out at an early age also got into nightlife, partying, and the fast lane sooner than people who were into student council and activities in school. Some of the student council and activity people never got into it at all. It seemed that having a cigarette in hand came with that territory for younger gays and lesbians. Some of it was peer pressure. If you don't see someone do it, how would someone even pick it up? Some of them have also taken up other activities that would be considered vices and a few of them are now paying for that with their health. I've seen people stop smoking more easily than letting go of smoking marijuana or drinking alcohol.

I don't hate the smell as much as some when it's faint and only on the person. It's a huge problem when it gets soaked into where you live or your car. I will not let anyone smoke in either.

I should add that some guys who people would think are hetero, smoke, and have other aspects about them that have sort of signaled to me that they might be interested in men. It doesn't happen often but I have gotten that reading in a few situations.

I've quit smoking hookah now. Now I just vape. I'm hoping to quit that some point in the near feature once I'm done having some med switches taken care of.

I don't smoke and I never will. My dad thinks he's got everybody fooled because he lights up on his way to/from work and late at night when he's taking the dogs outside, but the smell always comes inside and carries throughout the 2,000 square foot ranch style we call home. Bleh.

I recently stopped smoking after a number of years - I've only met one gay or bi guy who hasn't smoked and that was an early ex and I stopped for a bit while I was with him.

I think it probably depends on how stressful your coming out experience is and your social group and whether there's any overlap with those two things.

I still vape now, but I wish I had never started in the first place :/

I am a heavy smoker, one of the few it seems^^. Since i started rolling them myself i smoke a lot more 20+ on a free day, 10+ on a work day, however its hard to keep track when you just have a bag of tobacco lying in front of you. Also its really cheap. I pay like 50€ a month for my heavy smoking habit which is negligable.

But really, rolling yourselfs makes it so cheap and it tastes so much better that you just start smoking more and more.
