First post here so I thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm a Brit in her 40s and last year I finally acknowledged the fact that I'm gay. I have spent the last few months replaying and reevaluating behaviours, decisions and relationships with my new world view and unsurprisingly it all seems to make a lot more sense to me now.
I am now in a place where I want to reach out to others to get advice, support and share experience but I have no gay friends and, being an introvert, going to bars or clubs on my own to meet people feels hugely intimidating.
Anyway - here I am - this site looks great and I'm looking forward to chatting with you all!

    Hello and welcome here!

Have you considered joining Meetup or something similar? This way, if there are any LGBTQ+ groups in your area, you could get to meet some people (and not with the pressure of going alone to a bar/club, maybe being hit on when all you want to do first is talk, etc.).

Hi - thanks for the welcome!
I have looked for Meetups but there is nothing near me that seems appropriate. The only ones aimed at women are for younger age groups - 20s &30s. [Now I am assuming here of course that everyone follows the age groups - that could be my first mistake!]
There are a couple of groups a bit further afield though & I reckon I will have to give them a try.
    Thanks:slight_smile:

Honestly, if it comes to age groups -- just give it a try, check with the group organiser maybe if you're really unsure.

In my experience, oftentimes the 'age bracket' is a way to ensure that people will generally look for the same things, following the idea that your preoccupations in life aren't the same at 20 than at 40. But this all depends on your way of being. I'm 38 and I still live like I did at 25; one of my best friends is 10 years younger than I; and most people can't tell my age anyway because I don't fit what society expects from an almostt-40 woman (whether in terms of clothing, lifestyle, work and family). So, yeah, unless people in that group are anal-retentive about the age thing, in which case you'd probably be better off without them, go for it.

That's good to know. I will do that. I don't feel 45 so I have that going for me!
    Thanks for the advice.

    Hello and welcome!
Congratulations on findig out! It's a huge step and I hope you get to know someone in your area. I'm pretty new to this myself and haven't any LGBTQ-friends that I know of. I feel like this place is a good start. Good luck

its a relief to talk to others in same situation right? Keeping it on for a long time is not good
