I want to date someone, but it's a bit of a weird situation.

I won't bore you with my sexual confusion and history of denial. But I'm in the closet to my family (not for long, hopefully), and I'm just coming to terms with being bisexual, mostly in the last couple of days really. And I've been talking to this boy who I'm going out with on Wednesday.

But here's the weird situation. We knew each other as kids because my lesbian aunt used to date his lesbian mum for two years, YEARS ago. We fell out of touch when they broke and now like 7/8 years later we randomly came across each other on the internet! Do you think this is especially weird? I like him a lot though so I'm not sure i'd care, but just curious about your responses to it!

    Hello Georgie! Welcome to EC!

Why would that be weird? If you want to go on a date with him, then go on a date with him. It should simply be less awkward because the two of you already know each other and can start out by catching up to ease into the date, if you want to.

Thank you mate! I actually plan on coming out to family by the end of this week because while I've only been accepting myself very recently, I'm bad at secrets and for my own anxiety I feel it'll be right. Plus convenient with pride month! But yeah, maybe just because they knew him as a kid and if we did become a 'thing' I dunno if that would seem off is all! And yeah it's made it much easier to relax meeting him knowing we know each other already, even if we werent that close before.

Well, now the two of you have an opportunity to get to know each other much better. That's great!

The fact that you knew each other as kids just makes things a little more interesting and means you don't start out a possible relationship as total strangers. That's pretty nice, actually.

It is really nice. I've got no experience with either gender when it comes to real dating or anything so I feel like it's a great way to jump into things, plus the fact that it feels so nice and natural to be open about liking another guy. Drinks will probably help with our social anxiety too, hahaha. But yeah, fingers crossed things go well. And if they do, I think that will give me the boost I need to share this part of me with my family. Thanks man.

I don't think it's weird. Go for it.

Welcome to EC! I agree with the others. Since the two of you already know each other, will probably make the whole date a bit less awkward. Only difference is that it would be with the probability of a relationship developing from it, rather than an acquaintance thing. Please come back and tell us how it went
