ten years ago I would have never believed it could happen here either. perseverance is the key. if enough people bang on the wall long enough, it will fall.

Now I get why so many American's complain they're packing their bags and going to Canada, turns out you can't entirely blame the mass exodus on Trump :joy:

Does Canada have gay marriage and gay rights too? Wow. I mean i knew they had three gender options for paperwork but wow. They're so much more progressive and you never hear about anything really bad happening in Canada. Might need to consider moving there someday at this rate haha. Or at least visiting. Damn why can't we be like that. Are they progressive about gay marriage and equal treatment for gay/bi/lesbians when it comes to other shit like adoption?

    Hi LunarLyric:

We've had gay marriage for a little over ten years and homosexuality was decriminalized in 1969. Under both the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (part of the Constitution) and the Human Rights Act, LGBT+ people are inherently protected from discrimination so adoption conflicts are not an issue here.

Do come for a visit (not in winter though)...we don't get enough Texans up here.

Canada are crazy progressive on everything. It is, from what I have heard from Canadian online friends, considered perfectly normal when people come out as gay there and anyone who makes fun of them is considered extremely rude.

ok, that's a lot. but yes, gay marriage since 2005, sexual orientation part of the human rights code long before that, adoption yes of course, gender options on government forms is hit and miss but getting better nothing formal from the feds and the provinces all have their own policies etc. but like i said its getting better.

its not a queer utopia but in general being rude is looked down on. while i feared a back lash when i came out as BI since i live in a pretty backwards area, no one has said anything to my face nor have i heard of anyone talking smack about it behind my back.

UPDATE; the bill as passed last week will receive Royal Assent this evening and will be law as soon as the Governor General signed in the name of Her Royal Highness Elizabeth 2, Queen of Canada. I don't believe there is a delay clause in the act, so it takes effect this evening. sooo excited.

Some say that people who will intentionally misgender transgender folks might be eligible for fines/jail time. Is that the case? I hope not, because that would be a violation of free speech.

That is so great!! Canada really has so much right going on. I don't think this will ever happen in the US through legislation. Just like marriage equality it will have to be the supreme court striking down discriminatory laws, at least that's my prediction. Not only does Canada have much better LGBT rights laws, they have universal healthcare instead of the shit US system. I imagine that includes drugs and surgeries for trans people.

I'm gonna guess it's illegal to discriminate against us for jobs, housing and public accommodations, which again will take the courts to gain in the US.

Will some Canadian marry me, please??

Hope not, but I doubt it.

This is awesome and another awesome reason to move to Canada... despite my preferences being more for Norway or New Zealand...

    Peace and Canadian dreams
