    This article is just too absurd for me to take seriously, so I feel like poking some light-hearted fun at it.

    “A religious leader of Russia’s Old Believers church said that the root of homosexuality is in the changing fashion of men’s facial hair and suggested that men should stop shaving to protect themselves from “slipping into” any sexual ambiguity.


    Metropolitan Kornily said that men with beards are less likely to be “corrupted” by homosexuality, the Moscow Times reported.

    So, then are beards supposed to be protection against homosexuality in a similar vein as garlic is supposed to be a protection against vampires?

    I noticed that all of the discussion in the article was about male homosexuals. So what about female homosexuals? Are beards so powerful that the mere sight of them on these ‘manly’ men will ‘make’ female homosexuals suddenly straight?

    ““God set down certain rules. The Lord created everyone with a beard. No man can resist his creator,” Kornily told Russia’s National News Service.”

    For some reason, this conjures up an image in my mind of babies being born with goatees… And would a goatee on an unborn child in the womb tickle it’s mother? LOL!

    Also if “everyone” was created with a beard, am I missing something or are women just awesomely better at facial shaving and preventing 5 o’clock shadow than most men? Of course, it’s also possible that women aren’t included in Mr. Kornily’s definition of “everyone”…

    Shaking my head so damn hard. And, it took me a second, but I thought he meant babies born with beards at first as well-given his mentality and beliefs and "logic", I really did think he would've meant that.

    Has anyone brought up to him what boys do before they develop beards? I guess if they realize they're gay before they start growing a beard, they end up just not growing one, apparently?! Lol.

    In his mind, probably lol! Or they should all know a good hair/makeup artist to always draw a fake beard every day. And I guess if any women ever wear a tank top or something, that's the sure-fire sign they're gay! I know he didn't mention women, but still, would that be too far off from what he would say?

    It is so much better to laugh at it- I remember Mel Brooks said the same thing one time.

    Well, he did mention men's clothing styles, so if he even gave thought to women, that probably wouldn't be a leap.:slight_smile:

    Hey, could the fact that he didn't even think to mention women mean that his own beard isn't working 'properly' and is actually 'summoning' his homosexual tendencies?

    (Still haven't figured out how to quote, yet), but yes, his beard is definitely faulty by not picking up on that. I guess their beards are cyborg-ish and navigate and stuff, and have repelling attributes. But his is definitely faulty or malfunctioning! :slight_smile: Or what about people who realize they're gay after they had grown their beard??

    And, yup, the perfect paraphrase, if he had any decency or single brain cell that is xD

    It's Russia, that's how. But no, it is terrible how things are over there, especially towards the community. Remember Pu$$y Riot? And there's an actual Holocaust for gays now in Chechnya, which of course their illustrious president won't do anything about since he's anti-gay. I really wish they could all move out to a more suitable country, it really hurt when I first heard about that.

    Wonder if this priest knows of gay men who like beards... or have beards... Or considered the fact that facial hair has no effect on your sexual orientation whatsoever.

    By that argument, I should like one sex more than the other the longer I go without shaving *FACEPALM!!!*
