Yeah, I'm running low on podcasts so make your case here for some of your favorite podcasts and why we whould listen to them. I'll start, before someone snatches it first I present you:

    Welcome To Night Vale
(Turn on your radio and hide)

    What is it?
A twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the fictional town of Night Vale. The show is actually a dark comedy/satire masquerading as fantastical horror, so if you are easily scared don't let that deter you from giving it a listen. It really isn't scary, well not in any way that would count as true horror.

Why should you listen to it?
Because there's nothing else like it. It's by far the most bizarre thing you will find twice a month and you will love for it.

Episodes range from 20-30 minutes long and I suggest listening to the entire catalog in chronological order since there's some sense of continuity between the episodes and some references and allusions will be lost on you (plus, why wouldn't you want to?). If you wanna start out of order tho, try out Ep. 26 (Faceless Old Woman), Ep. 13 (A Story About You) and/or Ep. 53 (The September Monologues) to sell you on the concept. Does it show how much I love this? 'cuz I do. Also, check their twitter account. Calling it hilarious would be doing it a disservice.

Fun fact: If it makes any difference, the main character (the host) is gay.

So, what are your recommendations? (if any, since I don't know many people that dig podcasts)

This is a comedy gaming discussion/news podcast
I love this podcast so so much. I listened to it walking to school, where I got my gaming news and it's so funny.

    Startalk Radio
Starring the one and only Neil De Grasse Tyson, this is an incredibly good science podcast
Neil has different hosts on each week, though some are recurring, a lot of comedians as well, and will talk about recent discoveries and answer questions in the 'Cosmic Queries' shows

If you're an atheist or non-believer, The Thinking Atheist is a really great podcast.

The host Seth is hilarious (without being obnoxious) and he was actually a Christian radio host for over 20 years before he changed his beliefs, and comes from a really conservative family who basically won't accept him or talk to him (I think some of us can relate to this).

Every podcast is on a topic like "the psychology of belief" and "grief without belief"....it's really insightful (plus people call in to share their own personal stories/thoughts).

    Clockwork Cabaret ™
Steampunk music, and some comedy thrown in. What more is there to say? It's a weekly podcast, older ones are 2 hours long (from when they were live on the air as well) newer ones are about an hour. Never know what you will hear.

This sounds amazing and very up my alley. Will definitely check it out.

To keep the ball rolling here's another of my recommendations:

    Sound on Sight
    (Where the cool kids hang)

    What is it?
Weekly canadian podcast about everything film, from the most renowned big-budget blockbuster releases to the most obscure indie flicks. Usually hosted by Ricky D (creator) and Simmon Howell (host) with at least one (or two) guest(s), together they review the latest releases, discuss film festivals, bicker incessantly and fight against crime (not really but you can't confirm they don't).

Why should you listen to it?
The podcast is usually one or one-and-a-half hours long (sometimes they break the 2 hr. threshold) which I realize can sound awfully long for some people however I assure you the time will fly by while you listen to their arguments. Their expertise in films and film criticism is top notch without ever becoming patronizing; their analysis are very in depth and they will never fail point out details and underlying themes in the film that will make you wanna rewatch it immediately (or watch it for the first time if you haven't); there's always some validity to the points they rise even if you don't agree with them and they can be very funny at times.

Overall they are so just so passionate about films that it is infectious. Give it a listen, any of their three most recent episodes (in which they review, Nightcrawler, Interstellar and Birdman) will be more than enough to convince you to stay (or their Gone Girl review which I can't praise enough).

There's no such thing as a fish.

It's got all these interesting facts and stuff in it. It's run by the QI elves. I don't know that much about it because I've only just got into it but it's really funny and quite intriguing.

    Because QI!

So I know this thread is a few years old, but podcasts have really taken off in that time span and thought it could use a bump.

I am always looking for podcast recommendations. I have a horrible habit of binge listening and catch up on shows too soon, leaving myself in that sad empty time until new episodes are released. Just curious what everyone else is listening to and what shows you recommend.

Cool games inc. Is a really good podcast about two friends making up games based off of short twitter suggestions. It's got some pretty good jokes and the friends have a funny dynamic. The podcast also talks about lots of game technology and design stuff too.

Than you, I will have to check all those out. I am open to trying all types of podcasts especially comedy shows that help get me through the work day.

I love The Adventure Zone, the McElroy brothers from MbMbaM play Dungeons and Dragons with their Dad and it is just hilarious. (I have no knowledge of anything D and D, but they make it seem like so much fun). I also really like Gastropod. Two women look into the history and science of food. Pretty neat without the foodie overtones of some other similar podcasts.

If you like that D&D thing, you should check out Heroes and Half-wits. It's not a podcast, but they're fucking hilarious.

S Town. I have some issues with the "big reveal," but oh everything else is really amazing.

I've started listing to a lot of podcasts recently, my favorites are...
Plumbing The Death Star: Three guys (sometimes more) argue and nitpick about movies, games, and stuff like that. It's really funny and they often ask really funny questions, and go to some hilarious places trying to answer them.
Do Go On: A podcast by three stand up comedians, each episode one of them chooses a topic and writes a report on it. Then they read out the report to the other two, the topics are often really interesting or really weird (or both) and being comedians they always make it quite funny.
The Binge: A movie review podcast by two gay people. As well as normal review stuff, they also focus on how well the movies handle representation of all kinds.

Have you checked out Myths and Legends? It's still relatively new, but as a fellow literature geek I think you will enjoy it.
