    Death sentence is only legal in certain states and even then, it's still not insanely common. I don't know a ton of info on it but I'm pretty sure it's mainly used only when murder is involved and even then it's still only used in somewhat extreme cases. There's also their sue that inmates on death row can be there for years before getting executed.

    Whether or not the death sentence is used at all depends entirely on the state. For example, in Illinois, the death penalty is illegal. Other states (I can't think of which ones right now) still use it, though I couldn't tell you what it would be used for outside of murder.

    The death penalty is used for murder cases and those cases usually are in the extreme. Most states have banned the death penalty since a moratorium on it in the 1970's. A couple states that still have it are Florida, Texas and Arkansas.

    Outside of that, the worst sentence you can get is life in prison without parole (being released from prison early due to good and/or changed behavior). Death sentences and life w/o parole are virtually the same thing because it can take years, sometimes decades, before an inmate is put to death as the condemned has to use up all of their chances to appeal the ruling and the American legal/court system is really freaking slow.

    I'm not really surprised by what's he's done. There has been a long history of individuals who have used religion to hide behind their crimes such as abuse. And the worst offenders will usually be pretty radical too.

    I'd say he got what he deserved
