I enjoyed the films and have been thinking of getting the books. I would love to hear from anyone who's read them.

The books are great. I thought the first movie was crap, so I didn't bother going to see the second. If you had read the books first, you probably wouldn't have enjoyed the movies

True books are always way better. Are there any other book series you'd recommend?

My absolute favorite book series as a child! I've re-read them over and over and they never lose their magic

Another series I'd suggest is the 'Gone' series by Michael Grant. It's amazing.

I've read the gone series. I thought it was awesome. The premise was great and it was cool to have some lgbt characters

It frustrated me at points lol but yeah all in all it was great. Do you like fantasy? There's this really old series called 'The Belgariad' by David Eddings and it's pretty awesome.

I'll take a look. I'm not usually a fantasy fan as such.

I really enjoyed Rick Riordan's other series in that world: the kane chronicles and magnus chase being really good in my opinion. Have yet to read trials of Apollo, and I didn't like the roman series as much, and you should wait on that one until after finishing the percy jackson books, as it is really an extension of that series.

The books are awesome. Personally, I didn't really like the movies, so if you liked them you'll probably like the books even more.

I hated the movies so much.

I've read all the Percy Jackson books, the heroes of Olympus books, the Magnus Chase books and I'm reading the first trials of apollo book. I would recommend them. My favourite book series ever. I love them so much

So I'm guessing I should read them then. Does it matter which order the series are read in?

Yes, it absolutely matters. Start with Percy Jackson, then Heroes of Olympus, then Magnus Chase. Kane Chronicles can go anywhere as long as you read them before the three crossover short stories, and I'm not sure about trials of Apollor

Yeah. Read Percy Jackson first (Percy Jackson and the lightning thief, the sea of monsters, the titans curse, the battle of the labyrinth, the last Olympian) then the heroes of Olympus (the lost hero, the son of Neptune, the mark of Athena, the house of hades, the blood of Olympus) and then I think it goes Magnus Chase book 1, then the trials of apollo book 1, then Magnus Chase book 2

I can say for a fact that it doesn't matter if you read Trials of Apollo between The Sword if Sumter and The Hammer of Thor. Also, CobraKiy3, you completely ignored the Kane chronicles

The Percy Jackson movies are Percy Jackson movies in that they stole the character and place names. That's literally it.

Can't recommend the books highly enough. They're some of my very favorites. I'm so excited for the new Trials of Apollo next week I might cry when it arrives.

You can read them in release order like CobraKiy3 suggests or you can do it more by series. Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus have to go in that order. After that you can read either the two Magnus Chase (Sword of Summer and Hammer of Thor) or the first Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle. The second Trials of Apollo (The Dark Prophecy) comes out May 2nd so I can't speak to how that's going to fit in continuity-wise.

The Kane Chronicles only vaguely touch on the Greek/Norse universe. I've only read the first one because I'm not a fan but there's no crossover so they could be read at any time.

I've only read the first series(Lightning Thief-Last Olympian, amazing books), I had no clue there were others. They were really good though, gonna need to read the others now
As for the movies, I really liked the first one, not so much the second, they were ok, just really different from the books.

Why does everyone gloss over the Kane Chronicles? They were much better than the Heroes of Olympus and Magnus Chase, easily on par with the original Percy Jackson series in terms of quality writing and dry humor.
