I did go--and it was an okay time...at best!

In the U.S. prom seems to be a BIG deal with a lot of hype around it in every high school. (And this was true in mine!) Who you are going with, getting the dress, getting a limo (lots of kids do this!),what kind of corsage you are getting, what you are wearing to the 'after party'. Then in my area the tradition was to spend the next day at the beach...so conversation turned to what beach, who with, and the search for the perfect bathing suit. Ugh. I remember getting wrapped up in ALL of this! Dresses, bathing suits-it all gets expensive. Seems so silly now!

Quite honestly if I had skipped the whole thing that would have been fine! But at the time it seemed like such a big deal to go.

I went. I actually have a funny thing to say about my prom picture. There's 3 girls and 1 guy in the picture. I wasn't out or even really aware of myself at the time though (two of us ended up trans). :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That's basically the only good thing I have to say about prom.

I'm only a sophomore, but I was physically at the prom this year. I was controlling the spotlight, so I highly doubt that counts for anything. But the whole thing seemed boring from an outside looking in perspective.

I only went to afterprom when I was in high school. I had no real reason to go to actual prom. I am not a huge fan of dances.

Prom is to my knowledge only really a big thing in the American regions, always in the movies about, who you going to ask for prom ? Or sad if you dont have a date for prom.To much social pressure it seems to have a date. What are we living in the 1900's? : P

I thought also it was more bigger then it actual is, it is in a gym hall usually right ? It seems it could be nice, but if the social pressure is really that high regarding having a date then no. Or popularity rankings. Should be about making silly memories between young people only. If not Id say

Clog dancing event is better ! Neutral ! And clogs ! What else can u want more ?

I haven't gone to prom yet, that's next year, but I do plan to. I have gone to homecoming and TOLO though! TOLO was kind of small but we went to get food/ice cream as a date prior, and there weren't many people, we danced, played volleyball with the beach balls (it was tropical themed) and cuddled and stuff but that's kind of specific to going with a partner. I had fun, lots of fun!

Kind of tho prom isn't really a big thing here. I went in a dress and felt like I was in drag. I don't think I've ever felt less comfortable.

We had our prom at the seattle aquarium last year, and we're having it at the Space Needle this year, but maybe our event coordinators are just overachievers?

I went to a school dance once. It was pointless. The music was insanely loud, and the dance floor was crowded. I stayed near the snack bar, with my freind, until her worst enemy showed up, and then we went home. I didn't even know that I was transgender then.

My school didn't allow me to go with my girlfriend :/ She is a junior and I am a sophomore and we go to an all girls school and I couldn't go because I was an underclassmen but underclassmen from other schools were invited and could go . Quite salty still at the dean but they had a big prom malfunction so karma is a bishhh.

I went to prom but it's not that big of a deal in the UK compared to the US. It was still a fun time though, I went with a group of friends.

I didn't go. I was not in a good place at that age. I wasn't prepared to be dating boys. I was a chubby, shy, terribly prudish, and living in Texas, where all the boys like the thin, blonde, wild etc girls.

I wish I got to go. If only I was where I am and the way I am now :frowning2: highschool was ROUGH!

No and I don't regret it. I wouldn't have had the money to dress prettily, or the gall to ask someone to accompany me.

I went and it was fun to hang out with my gf but the rest of it was boring and slightly overwhelming. There was a massive amount of people there, and it made me really nervous because I don't do to well with huge crowds. My gf and I left like an hour early and just walked around the town for a bit which was a lot better than the prom tbh.

My entire school career I swore off prom, there was no way I was going to go...then senior year came around and all my friends went...so I did too.
I mostly sat at a table eating finger foods, sang and danced a little, waited too long in a line for pics.
I wore a long sleeved, knee length, lace purple dress
I went with my friends, not a date
    Good experience
