Open call- I'm interested in who's taken a Kinsey. Every single one puts me at a 3.

I just took two tests. One put me at 5, the other put me at 6 (5 - mostly gay but incidentally hetero, 6 - strictly homosexual)

My own personal assessment of myself - so damn gay, and so damn happy to live that way.

    5. I always get 5. And I think it's valid.

I think 3 is kinda accurate. I slide up and down a notch sometimes. So, do lesbians really hate bisexuals? :-(

No, we don't. At least not to my knowledge. But I guess it depends on the situation.

    No! Absolutely not!

I think with any group of people you will have jerks who have some sort of bias... but most gay and bi people i know are not judging of anyone's sexuality.

I always get 4...which sounds absolutely correct to me.

There is no official Kinsey test according to the Kinsey Institute, the research institute at Indiana University where Dr. Kinsey did his work. Most of the tests I've seen on EC are for entertainment purposes only and have flaws. So use them as a starting point rather than as a definite testing instrument.

Here's more detailed information I posted in a previous thread ...

Same for me. A 3 with the slippage to and fro sometimes.

    OED27x,

I'm curious, what are you hoping to learn/explore with the kinsey test? There was a point where i was taking Kinsey tests left and right... what questions will it help you answer?

I agree with siennafire that the Kinsey test is only a loose start to giving you something to help you understand your needs and your orientation. It did help give me guidance in my own questioning of myself.

I do find it interesting though that as my sense of myself has become clearer, my Kinsey results have shifted slightly.

Baristajedi - good question. I don't know. Some kind of confirmation one way or the other. Which I know can only come from within. I don't feel, at this point, that I 'fit' in being straight or gay.

I had a really magical night with a woman and I honestly had never experienced something like that. Kissing women has always been more enticing. With men, I don't feel as emotionally connected but I do enjoy having sex with men. I guess I like the feeling of being protected, being able to turn them on, etc. it's a beautiful either way. An expression of love whether you are with a man or a woman. That's kind of where I'm at right now.

Another approach is to ask yourself which statement is closest to the truth (remember we are talking attraction rather than behavior (so it's possible to be Kinsey 5 even though one has been married to the opposite gender for a long time)).

    • Exclusively attracted to the opposite gender (Kinsey 0)
    • More attracted to the opposite gender (Kinsey 1 or 2)
    • Equally attracted to both genders (Kinsey 3)
    • More attracted to the same gender (Kinsey 4 or 5)
    • Exclusively attracted to the same gender (Kinsey 6)
As baristajedi indicates, one does gain clarity over time, so your self-score can change as you gain clarity through acceptance of your sexuality.

I would say you could be Kinsey 4 given the emotional preference for women plus the anecdotal evidence that some of the Kinsey "tests" under report by 1. You should view this as a starting point and continue to test this hypothesis with your own thoughts and feelings.

I've taken a couple of versions of the test and have either broken it or got an answer I didn't think was accurate. The ones I've taken focused a lot on sexual history rather than sexual attraction, which I think is silly.

I'd consider myself about a 5, though it varies. Sometimes I feel more bi, sometimes I feel totally gay.
