What age is too young to be certain that you are gay? All opinions are appreciated.

I would say for gender identity no age per say, but sexual preference probably somewhere around puberty. June

There is no hard and fast age. Some people are sure as early as kindergarten, others like me take awhile.

I'd say around puberty. But it varies from person to person.

Not sure.. I realised when I was 14.. but I know a lesbian who realised when she was 8 (at least that's what she said).. I would say most people become aware of their sexuality around puberty, but some may know even sooner (or later).. maybe the younger someone is, the less is the chance he/she is already certain.. but I guess there's no exact age boundary saying that people younger cannot know, and older people can..

-1 is too young to know because you haven't been conceived yet at that age.
    :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But really I don't think you can be too young to know yourself.

I am gonna say around 11-14. I am 15 and I accepted myself at around 13 years old. But I knew something is strange about me since like 11.

If i had been raised in a more accepting environment, i easily could have known at like 12 or 13 if i hadn't brushed off and repressed all the signs i was noticing. So i'd say middle school is what i assume it would have been with me, since i noticed the signs in early middle school.

I mean I knew I was gay when I was 11 so I guess you're never too young.

Typically issues of gender or sexuality are most prevalent beginning at puberty. However some people know before then, so theoretically, any age at which you have a concept of self and/or relationships.

I have always been attracted to guys romantically and until I was 12 I thought that this was completely normal and everyone just suppressed their feelings. Of course once I reached puberty I realized I'm a lot more attracted to guys than I thought. Also, I remember I was kicked out of a church daycare when I was 6 because I wanted to play house and be the wife so I could get kissed by " my husband. "

I think it just varies from person to person. I don't think there is a 'right' age to know. Some people know when their still in kindergarten and other only during puberty or way after that and that's totally fine

I have friends who knew around ages 4, 5, etc. Most people know by puberty. Some it takes until their 30s and beyond. I kind of knew in my early teens but I didn't fully put the pieces together and really seek out accepting myself until my early-mid 20s.

Normally, it would be around 13-15. I had an early sexual awakening when I was just a kid. It didn't scar me for life, but it made me feel "different" from other kids, and I was too embarrassed to even talk about it until I was an adult.

Puberty is roughly the age where one can become certain of their sexuality or gender. Before then any feelings could be down to child development. For example, many children experience gender dysphoria but "grow out" of it once they hit puberty (unfortunately this fact is often used incorrectly against actual transgender people). Having said that, puberty age varies greatly between 9-14 years in girls, and 12-16 in boys, so you can't really state "the one" age where gender identity and sexuality become a certainty.

I'm guessing that puberty would make things definite, although some people certainly seem to have a pretty good idea beforehand.

I personally think there can be signs in early childhood, I had signs when I was 6, 7, and 8, but I didn't "know" I was gay, I had some weird questions, but I don't really think someone so young can know who they're sexually attracted to before they're sexually developed. I can say at 13...I did everything in the world to convince myself that I'm not a lesbian.

I'm going to say..11 or 12 would be the youngest that one could more than likely know that they're gay.

    Personally, I had bi-romantic feelings when I was as young as 6...but I didn't realize I was bi until I was 11.

Actually, I'm reading Oddly Normal, which is a memoir (with some research and statistics) written by a father of a gay son. (It's a pretty good book!) According to the book, there are many accounts of children being aware of their orientation as young as 6, and the average age for boys to realize same-sex attraction is 12, while for girls it's 14. Keep in mind, that means there was about the same number of children who were under average and over average (so there's quite a bit of range)
In the end tho, It really depends on the individual (sometimes homophobic environments or personal experiences can cause people to deny their orientation for a longer time)
