So basically everyone at school is talking about how great the film is, and my friends told me I should see it, but I'd like to have some of your opinions on it if you've seen it. Is it that good, or is it overrated?

I thought it was fantastic, personally. Usually I dislike romance films, but this one was very well done. The music sticks with you and overall I think it is a beautiful film. Not "the best thing ever" but certainly not overrated, around an 8/10. It deals with the themes of finding love and chasing one's dreams.

The hit song, "City of Stars," is one of the highlights. I am going to buy the sheet music for it so I can perform it on the piano.

    You should check it out.

It's a fine movie and worth watching, especially if you're a fan of musicals.

    But it's also vastly overrated.

I saw it back in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and I really enjoyed it. It is not my favourite film from last year, but it would be in my top 10.

Thanks for your answers, I'm definitively going to check it out! Now I have to decide if I'm going to see it at the movie theatre (if I find somebody who wants to come with me) or at home

It would be an understatement to say that I enjoyed it. I would recommend going to see it as soon as possible, im not usually the type for romantic movies, but I didn't really see it as one, I more saw the story of struggling artists, and the challenges of getting work can be, that was what made an impact on me.

Lil' update: I just came back from the La La Land screening, and I have to say, I really liked this film! The story was fine (I fairly liked it, though I didn't think it was particularly outstanding), but the aesthetics... JUST FANTASTIC! The music was also really good (Another Day of Sun is stuck in my head :lol:slight_smile:, but I think it is a shame that some of the music was repeated during all the film, I would have preferred more songs!
Anyway, I think it was a great film, not the best one (as most of you said), but I definitely recommend it!

I loved it! I think it's actually one of my favorite movies. The music was so good, and it was just really well done. Emma Stone is amazing in it too.

I guess I'm one of the few people that absolutely hated it. I can't stand Emma Stone (Ryan Gossling was great, though) and I just thought the whole movie was messy and all over the place.
