Wow so many stories of people looking younger haha, guess its common then

In terms of gaining weight, trust me, I could do with loosing some.
Thanks though, I think you're right that skinny people look younger.

I normally get mistaken for being 19-21. Any time I'm in any professional setting, I get asked if I just graduated (high school).

If you have a naturally youthful face, there's really not much to do about it, well besides plastic surgery...

Dressing more adult like and behaving in a mature manner can help. Also like others have said makeup and facial hair can add on a few years. Honestly I'd just enjoy the compliments if I were you.

Funny I should see this thread. I just went into my local library to see if they had any recommendations for books on a topic I was interested in. So I get asked if I wanted books from the young adult section.

I have no idea what age people perceive me as, but obviously it is younger than I thought!

I'm 26 and went bowling with 3 friends ages 26, 25, 25. One friend did all the talking for us and said 4 for 2 games please. The girl serving us responding without hesitation or waiting for confirmation "so that's 3 adults 1 junior?". We were stunned! Haha. It made my friends day. I'm so short. I clearly don't now how to look my age haha

I'm 26 and people say I look 20. I take it as a complement now because eventually I won't get carded

I'm 18 and people seem to assume that I'm about 20. I think it's because I have sharp features rather than the softer ones that people my age usually have.

I'm told I look 21-23, I'm asked for ID all the time. I know you're supposed to take it as a compliment, but... at 35 years old (36 in 4 months time) it would be nice to regarded as an adult. It causes a slight problem when I want to go woman hunting: I look so young that people my age dismiss me, but I don't know what's 'cool' when talking to people of my perceived age and they think I'm weird and old fashioned (!)

Because of my height, a lot of people mistake me for being a few years older than I am. Back when I was in middle school, people would sometimes mistake me for a highschooler.

I think a lot of it depends on things like your body type and clothing. If you have a young-looking face but you're dressed like a professional then people tend to take you for being closer to your age. I think someone already mentioned this but as someone whose weight fluctuates, I find I tend to be ID'd more when I'm thinner and less busty/developed looking. Obviously there's nothing much you can do to appear a certain way if your body won't physically allow you, but I guess with more layers you'd look bulkier? Part of it is also to do with demeanor. The first time I ever drank in a bar (legally) I was kicked out in spite of having perfectly valid ID, because I was so anxious and uncertain that the bouncer thought I was using a fake one.

So I guess, if you dress more mature, look physically bigger and stronger (or attempt to) and appear confident in what you're doing, then you're more likely to look your age?

    I'm 19, I wouldn't much mind being mistaken for 15-17 but I get mistaken for 12.

It depends on a few factors. People my own age often see me as a late teens girl at first (some see me as a guy because I've come out to them, but then they say I look very young), people older than me who work with young people see me as a late teens girl or early teens guy, and people older than me without much contact with young people see me as a teenage boy. If I dress smart I get read as closer to my real age, but I don't care enough to do that all the time -- I'm alright being mistaken for younger as long as I'm read as male, I've decided.
